Tell me what you all think please. My beta number was only 31. That seems REALLY low to me and the doctor told me that for being as far along as i say i am it seems low. I'm getting another test Saturday and i hope and pray it goes up. I asked for his honest opinion and he said he would guess it would go down. I'm having a really hard time because this seems like horrible news. I'm really worried. The ultrasound showed nothing at all. He said it's because it's too early for anything to appear so that's not a bad thing. They didn't see anything in my tube so he's almost positive it's not an ectopic pregnancy which is just about the only good thing i heard.
My temp went a little up today and the spotting isn't as bad. I would think this was a good thing but it's just that number that's making me worry. Can someone tell me whether this result means i'm pretty much sure to miscarry. Is it possible for it to just be low and still be okay?

((hugs)) Just try and relax - Beta numbers don't mean anything - the only important thing is that they double - so the numbers on Saturday will tell you more..
On the sheet from my lab it says for 4 weeks a normal HCG level is anywhere from 9.5 to 750.

Really? Gosh i hope you're right. I haven't *felt* like anything has been really wrong. The doctor just really worried me.

I commented at the other board, but the doctors don't like to give any sort of hope at all at first. Mine didn't until we saw the heartbeat on my 7 week scan. Hang in there, I hope all is well and that the spotting stops

Aw, hugs Kristin. The important thing about betas is that they double. Here's a chart for the normal hcg ranges.
hCG levels during pregnancy (in weeks sincelast menstrual period)
3 weeks LMP 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Also, until 5+ weeks, nothing would be visible on an ultrasound. I spoke with an U/S tech when I was 4 1/2 weeks and she told me she won't even try to do an U/S until after 5 weeks when you could at least see a sac.
I'd think that as long as you are not cramping, you should be hopeful. When I had my m/c in December, I was cramping consistently from the time I got my BFP until 2 weeks later when I m/c (my numbers decreased).
Oh, did you doctor also check progesterone? From what I understand, if your progesterone is low, that could also cause spotting.
You and your bean are in my thoughts and prayers. Please try to stay positive about this pregnancy.

Even just from the few comments i've got i'm feeling so much better now. He made it sound like i had no hope at all. If it's really just dependent on the numbers doubling then there's no real way to know yet.
Does everyone agree with this? I guess i've never really known much about betas.

It absolutely only matters that they double every 48-72 hours. No doctor will request 1 beta because that number, in and of itself, means nothing.

You hit the nail on the head, it's the doubling time that matters. Lynda is totally right about the one beta draw being useless. I have great hope for your bean!

Yes the beta number doesn't really mean anything unless they are doubling like everyone says. When I started spotting and my first beta was at 32 or 34 (I can't remember) the doctor said that I could have implanted late and nothing to really worry about. However I KNEW that something was wrong and it turned out that I was right. If you don't feel as though anything is wrong then go with that feeling. Listen to what your body is telling you. Don't worry about the numbers and I am sure that everything is going to be ok. Just hang in there, I know that it is hard but you have to try not to stress out about it. I will be thinking about you over the next few days.

35 isn't low at all!!! My first HCG was only 10! You just want to be certain it doubles and stays up!

don't worry yet Krista!! mine weren't 'doubling' at first and I was panicked and I was spotting!! I had lots of spotting for about 3 weeks but everything is fine now! no more spotting and we saw the h/b at 6 weeks.
I know how hard it is not to worry and how easy it is for everyone to say stop worrying but try and relax!!! I left work at least 3 times to go to the Dr. because of my spotting because I was so worried! I have been exactly where you are! Hang in there!

My 1st beta was 36 Krista, so try not to worry too much. I know you are going through a lot and it's difficult. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

They have not done mine at all.
Is it a standard they do where you live?

Ditto! Just stay positive for tomorrow's test and you will have a better idea of what is going on.

Not all Drs do betas at all...just depends on your dr and if you have a history of loss or you are spotting or something.
