Did you do them? Where did you get it done? How far along were you when you did them?
DH and I have been looking into this and we're trying to decide when would be a good time. I absolutely love looking at the pictures so if you have any, I would love to see it!

Our OB's office does 4D as part of the routine 20 week appt./ultrasound. I know that other places will do them for a charge if your reg. OB doesn't do them. I *think* most people get them between 16-20 weeks.. I could be wrong though !

We have to drive 2.5 hours to get ours done We are going to do them around 24 weeks, it says on the website that they usually wait until after 20 weeks cause you get better pictures, so we are going to do them after our gender ultrasound (incase we still don't know the sex of the baby!!)
We also get a stuffed bear that they put the babies heartbeat into I think that is awesome!!

Wow - I love the stuffed bear idea....I'm still early on so haven't looked into it yet...but I'm sure we will. What is the average cost of them?

I *think* between 100-200 dollars... but I'm sure it varies from place to place and depends on how many pictures you get or if you get a video, etc.

well i got mine at 22w 1d. i got it at place called Ultrasona in Columbus, Oh. it was really nice.
we only paid 80 dollars. we just bought 2-d gender so we could sure she was a girl. and that was supposed to come with 5 stil 2d shos and a 10 min dvd but the lady gave us the 3d/4d and 4 shots!!
it was so nice of her! we could also do the bear with the heartbeat but that would be an extra 35 dollars.

Nope. I wasn't willing to spend the money. Besides which, if you have a good u/s tech, you can see EVERYTHING very clearly with a 2D u/s.

Since I was too skeptical about the gender on my 20 week u/s we went ahead and got the 3D scan. I'm sooooooo glad we did. It was amazing to see her little face. We got ours at 28 weeks and I believe that was as early as they wanted. They want you to wait a while so that your baby will have enough fat on their face and bodies to look like a baby instead of a skelton. Our insurance does not pay for them so I had to find my own place. Which wasn't hard. Just google places or ask others for references. I got plenty of shots to convince me that I was in fact having a girl!!! We got so many shots printed in black and white and sepia. Then we also got a CD with the pics and a DVD of the pics!!! It was like $140. To me it was totally worth the money to see her again and for my own sanity!!! It's a personal decision for everyone though!!!

Yeah the one I was looking at is $175.00 that is 30 mins, a cd with pics, a dvd and the stuffed bear is an extra $25!
I am saving up my money from work to get this done, as DH is not 100% on board with this idea!!

We're thinking about doing it, there is a place around here that does 4D ultrasounds. They recommend you get it down between 24 to 34 weeks for the best pics because the baby has some fat and you can see more detail, but you can get it done sooner. They have 3 packages - $99, $175 and $200. The $200 package includes a DVD of the u/s, 6 4x6 prints, CD-ROM with addt'l prints, and gender determination.

We did it, twice Once at 16 weeks to find out the gender and once at 28 weeks to see him again, it was my bday gift and we had a coupon from the first time we went. (Another reason we went twice was cause we had a homebirth and the midwives don't do u/s and we wanted to see our baby, have u/s pics and find out the gender! so for us it was money well spent. I think for both combined we spent $200 and that included a vhs tape, pictures, and a cd of more pictures)
Here's some pics
at 16w
(boy shot)
at 28w

I was reading about it... and It looks like most places won't do them before 22-23 weeks. (I was wrong in my PP!)

I got mine done free at work a few weeks ago. The ideal time to do this is around 28 weeks (give or take a few weeks) with a singleton. Too far before that and baby doesn't have much fat on him/her and can look a bit alienish/skeletal still. The regular u/s pics can look fine, but once they flip to 3D you never know what you're going to get. Anything after 28 weeks and baby can be somewhat cramped. You need a lot of fluid around baby to get good images. If he/she has her face against the wall for example, the pictures won't show up well. A lot of the regular u/s machines have 3D/4D capability now. You can always ask when you have an appointment if their machine does and beg the tech to try to get a few shots for you. We did that since we get all of our u/s at the hospital. The tech using the machine has to be good at it though as getting good imagines for 3D can be different from the 2D ones. None of the techs at the hospital were ever able to get good images partly because of their skill level (which they admited to) and partly because our girls would not stop moving or planting their faces in places that didn't allow for pictures.

Thank you all so much for all of the info! Beautiful pictures Lindsay!
We are going to talk to our doctor at our 14 week appt to find out if he does these. If not, DH and I were thinking of 24 weeks, going to one of the places nearby that offer it (I think I will change this to 26 or 28 weeks based on your suggestions.) Prices range from $50-150 so even out of pocket it isn't too expensive. We decided not to do the bear because we already have the HB saved to the computer and DH just made it my cell ringtone!

Just wanted to add that at my last regular OB u/s, the tech switched probes and put it on 3D for us. I didn't even know that was a possibility there. So it was a fun surprise. Here's two face shots we got:
