My HCG level is 75 today. If you don't remember it was 54 on tuesday. That means it did not double. It's only gradually going up. My doctor is concerned it could be ectopic. She said that's the first concern when numbers aren't doubling. I didn't even think i had to worry about that because when i got my u/s last week the other doctor said they would be able to see if it was in the tubes. He must've been wrong? This doctor said it was too early to tell. She's not an actual OBGYN but she can deliver babies. Anyway she wants me to go see an actual OBGYN early next week. She said they'll want to do another u/s because we'll be able to see then.

I don't know much about ectopic pregnancies other than the baby can't survive because it's in your tubes. Why can't they move it to the uterus? Is it just too complicated to do? She said there's a possibility it could be a healthy pregnancy but acted like it was rare.

So while my number did go up it still sounds like it's bad news. Does anyone know any information on ectopic pregnancies or betas not doubling? I don't know much so i'll be researching. I'm so concerned for my little baby. All i feel like i can do at this point is stay hopeful. I'll be praying it's healthy in my uterus. If you all could continue praying for me i'd really appreciate it.

I don't know much about ectopic except that it can be dangerous if it ruptures, so God forbid it is that, it's good that you would know early. But hopefully it isn't.

I'm sorry you still have to wait. But you should get definite answers from an ultrasound early next week.

But even though it didn't double in 48 hours, I always thought they should double every 48-72 hours in the beginning, so it's not necessarily bad news. Obviously a higher number would have been more relieving, but the fact that it is going up is still good. If they took it in the morning it might be in the low 100s and that would have sounded fine.

Wishing you the best!

I was going to say what Christine said... doubling time is between 2-3 days, so don't panic yet. I hate how they make us feel like if we don't double in 48 hours exactly there's something wrong. I'm so so sorry you STILL don't have a comforting answer. Remember you are always strong enough for one moment... and that's all you have to be.

I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Im sorry this has turned into an emotional rollercoaster for you and so far you've been robbed the enjoyment of this pg. I think you should stay hopeful, the fact that your numbers are still going up keep me hopeful that you are going to be one of those people whos numbers just increase slowly, and go on to have a normal, happy and healthy pg. I know this has been rough, but hang in there, stay strong and keep the faith. HUGS!!!

Oh Krista, I'm sorry your doctor didn't have better news. However, like Christine, I thought it was 48-72 hours too for doubling. I don't know much about ectopic pregnancies - my sister had one many years ago and it caused her some pain, that's the extent of my knowledge.

Keeping my fingers crossed that your numbers continue to go up and you get better news from your OB/GYN.

I'm sorry you are having these problems To answer your question about ectopic (and don't quote me) but I think it has something to do with the egg either not descending fully down the tube and then somehow the sperm gets up there, fertilizes and and once that happens it implants to the tube. I don't know if you try moving it if it won't implant and continuing growing properly in the uterus.
I'm really hoping your little bean isn't stuck in there.

found this link that might help keep you cautiously optimistic. (no idea of the validity of it but it sure sounds promising).

Early Pregnancy HCG Levels and Ultrasound Pictures

It says that in early pregnancy levels will double every 2-3 days and 85% of normal pregnancies double every 72 hours (not 48). It also warns not to make too much of the numbers until a 5-6 week ultrasound can see something. There is such a wide variation in number that no 2 pregnancies will be the same (beta's wise)..

Hope that at least helps keep you a bit more optimistic! Good luck - definitely thinking about you!!

I would also stay cautiously optimistic. I *think* its a good sign you are NOT bleeding or cramping.
