Well, we had a pretty quick labor and birth - 6 hours of labor and 11 minutes of pushing. The night before we went out for Mexican and went for a walk around town and then went home and I think Jeff hit every bump along the way.
I woke up at 4am and had to pee and when I wiped there was some blood on the tp. I wasn't having any cramps and had read that labor could still be 72 or so hours away. I was getting worried about being in labor, though, because I had one thing to do for work that I promised I would finish before I went on maternity leave and I had been putting it off. So I went downstairs and got online (that's when I posted to you ladies, too, that I thought something might be happening) and I finished the work I had to do. By then it was 4:45am and I had had a couple of uncomfortable cramps. I went upstairs and told Jeff and he asked if we should call the midwives. I wasn't sure so he went and got in the shower and I told him I'd see how I felt after he got out.
While he was in the shower I had a couple more cramps (it didn't seem like my whole tummy was contracting - just down low) and they seemed like they were about two and a half to three minutes apart - which kind of freaked me out. So I called my midwive's office and told the midwife on call - Linda - that I was going to head to the hospital. She thought that was a good idea and said she would meet us there.
We got to the hospital at 5:30am and Linda got there around 6am. By then I was having some pretty good contractions. Linda checked me and I was 4cm dilated. I decided to get into the tub because contracitons were getting pretty rough sitting in the bed. They were still about two and a half minutes apart. I sat in the tub for about two hours. It was a HUGE relief at first, but after a while I just couldn't take the pain anymore. The contractions were coming one on top of another so I decided to go for the epi. I didn't have strong opinions one way or the other about having one or not, so I wasn't disappointed, but there is a part of me that wishes I could have stuck it out.
Once I got out of the tub and got the epi we watched the rest of the women's championship game of the French Open. haha! I had been watching it all week so it was funny to be able to catch the final while I was in labor. The epi didn't really work on most of my left butt cheek and hooha so I could still feel the contractions, but I could take it in that localized spot. After I got the epi my midwife checked me and I was over 9 cm dilated. I'm still glad I got the epi, though, because they weren't going to let me push for another hour. I am GBS pos so I had to get another dose of antibiotics. I don't think I could have held off from pushing without it. I could still feel that intense urge since most of that area wasn't effected by the epi, but I was able to hold off.
At 11am the second dose of antibiotics was in and they told me I could push. That was the most surreal experience. Linda was trying to stretch things down there as I was pushing and let me tell you - that was NOT pleasant. I think around 9 minutes they said that Amelia's heartrate wasn't recovering as well as they liked so Linda said she needed to do a small epesiotomy (it's actually very small). I didn't care, I just wanted to get her out safely. So right after that I pushed again and she was out. Her umbilical cord was around her neck so that came off before the rest of her body was out. Then it was around her wrist, too, but that slipped right off. It was an absolutely amazing birth and I'm so glad to have my little girl here. Jeff and I feel so incredibly blessed. Pictures are posted in the hideaway.

Sounds like a good birth, when they first said that the HB wasnt recovering (and they are all so calm!) was the scariest moment of my life. I´m glad they got her out quicly and safely. I dont have hideaway access either, but I am imagining!
Well done Mummy!!

Oh Hollie, I'm sooo happy you had such a great experience with the exception of the epi not really taking. You did such a great job. How are you feeling now? I'm so happy for you and Jeff. And she is absolutely beautiful!!!!!!! How's breastfeeding going?
