Last Saturday, my sister who lives here threw me my shower. My sister from California flew in on Wednesday night and stayed until Monday morning. My parents drove here on Thursday and stayed until Sunday. My sister’s in laws happened to be in town during this time as well. I know them very well and have spent a lot of time at their house in MA over the last 12 years. Because everyone was here, my shower turned into a multiple day family get together. It was so much fun!
I decided I wanted a Thing 1 Thing 2 theme shower. If you don’t know who they are, there are pictures below, but they are twin Dr. Seuss characters. I’m not totally into pink everything and didn’t want the typical pink baby shower. My sister did a great job decorating with balloons, table clothes, plates and napkins to go along w/ the red blue theme. She also made red velvet cup cakes at my request. As gifts for the guests, she made decorated sugar cookies. The menu included a citrus chicken couscous salad, a roasted veggie salad w/ romano cheese and radicchio, a fruit salad and a spinach salad w/ strawberries and a homemade strawberry balsamic vinaigrette. Everything was awesome. My sister had just spent the week in Argentina for work, and did an amazing job throwing this together w/ limited time. She worked like I do and did everything she could before she left.
I work w/ people all across the country, but only a few people here. One of the people I work with here is a great friend, so I invited her. She contacted everyone we work with and collected money to buy gifts from the whole team. I was shocked when she walked in w/ multiple boxes. I figured DH and I would be buying most if what we need because there were only about 20 people at the shower and I didn’t expect my friends to buy much. I just wanted the party as an excuse to get together. All of them know our story of trying to get pregnant and were so supportive. In the end, we got our twin pack n play, both high chairs, both bouncy seats, our baby monitor, 6 pairs of sheets, 4 mattress pads, a ton of towels, wash clothes, receiving blankets, and socks. We also got some really cute outfits, toys, diapers, Robeez shoes, and an adorable laundry basket. One friend brought plain onesies and paint markers so everyone could draw on them. Can you guess which one my 2 year old niece did? We a few matching things, but most people know I want the girls to have their own identity and don’t plan on matching their outfits all the time.
We are registered at Target and BRU, which both seem bad about marking off on our registry what we received. We actually got more high chairs and a 2nd pack n play that we don’t need. We returned those for credit at BRU. We’ll got back and get our swing when we get our 10% of coupon. Erika mentioned a while back that BRU will five you the coupon early. We asked yesterday and they said we could come back in July and get it since the girls probably won’t wait until Sept to get here.
My 2 year old niece loves parties. Her parents had a small get together for her first birthday, thinking it would be just for them. She celebrated so hard that they decided to have a huge bash for her 2nd birthday. She was so excited for my shower and was well behaved and adorable the whole time. She is a great kid, but at 2 thinks she should be as independent as a 4 year old and can be very stubborn. She helped me open most of my gifts. She also kept trying to lift my dress because she gets to see my belly every time I’m with her. She gets that my growing belly means I’m having a baby. One of my good friends is due about a month before me, so we are about the same size. We happened to wear the same dress to the shower. My niece realized my friend is pregnant, but thankfully did not try to lift her dress.
Most of my friends left a few hours after the shower started, but a few stuck around most of the day. My dad, BIL, DH and my sister’s FIL decided to take my 10 month old nephew to the Old German Beer Hall during the shower. They dressed my nephew in his lederhosen and left for an afternoon of sausages and beer. A few of my friend’s spouses went with them. We have the funniest pictures of my nephew holding up a huge heavy beer mug, trying to drink out of it. It was empty and clean, but it’s still amazing someone his age could lift the glass. He’s the size of a typical 19-20 month old though.
We all hung out the rest of the day and had a big family dinner that night. That was my last day of being able to eat what I wanted. I had a cup cake and ½ of a cookie. That’s my last sugar for a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My mom has all the pictures of my sister, her and me and hasn't sent them yet.
