Hi everybody! I finally got my bfp today.
I think i'm due sometime early march.
Anyways I was wondering how early you can schedule an ultrasound? I'm going to be getting medicaid since I won't be getting insurance through work for awhile. I asked my cousin about it and they didn't do anything until like the 4th month which I think is kind of weird.

Congrats Erica!!
You normally can't see anything on an ultrasound until your 5th week - it's best to wait until you're at least 6-7 weeks so you can insure that you see a heartbeat.

Agreed, I'd wait until 6 weeks at least (longer if you're not sure about O dates, etc). But some Dr's don't do then until later in the pregnancy, so it may depend.
Oops! And Congrats!

It really depends on your OB. A lot of them won't do anything until the 20w anatomy scan unless you are having problems or have been doing fertility treatments. But some will do an early one to date the pregnancy. Anything before 6w is really not helpful because chances are you won't see a HB and even though it could be normal for that time it will just make you worry. Congratulations!!!

I think it depends on the OB. Most will do them around 6-7 weeks to check for a heartbeat and then again at 18-20 weeks. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

It depends on the dr. Some drs will do a dating u/s around 8 weeks to confirm your EDD. Then you have another u/s around 12-13 weeks for the nuchal translucency test (for Downs). Then your Level II anatomy scan is down around 20 weeks. You usually don't get any other u/s after that unless they're necessary, but many doctors will do biophysical profiles towards the end of pregnancy to get estimated fetal measurements.
For one reason or another, I always seemed to have an u/s once a month between the regularly scheduled u/s and unexpected ones.

Not every Dr does this one unless you are at a higher risk for downs.

Because it will be medicaid, you may not get an early ultrasound. A few years ago medicaid changed to paying for only one ultrasound (which they used as the 18-20 weeks one). Alot of docs will do early ultrasounds to date the pregnancy, you may be different because of your insurance.

I had Medicaid, although it was my secondary insurance, and I still got a dating u/s. Come to think of it, my friend got one as well, and Medicaid was her primary. Different states cover different things.

Congrats on your BFP!
I had my first u/s at 11 weeks, 4 days and will have my second one around 20 weeks. Like others said it will depend on your doctor and your insurance as to how many you get. I have Tricare and the doctors at the Navy hospital I go to always do an u/s at your initial appointment but I have friends with Tricare who go to Army hospitals in other states and they didn't get an u/s until 20 weeks. Like someone else pointed out different states have different rules about Medicaid - it's definitely not the same everywhere.

congrats, and welcome! unless you are deemed 'high risk', you may have to wait awhile for your first ultrasound. mine wasn't until 10 weeks. but it will all depend on your OB.
