I didnt need anything as I gave birth in a public hospital,
I did take a few things, warm socks (I had an epi and my left foot was frozen!, I took thick, fluffy socks!). Also I broke waters so I was 24 hours just waiting for something to happen, so take music, a book or something.
Once they induced me my labour and the delivery was less then 6 hours, so snacks and drinks weren´t much good (DH went out to eat!). However, if you miss mealtime, it may be a long time till you eat, so take something!.
On a happier note, take a colourful toy for the hospital crib, with white clothes and white sheets, a pale baby looks batter in photos if theres some colour in there.
Chapstick is very good, but the nurses came round every hour with vaseline in my hospital.
The best advice is to pack a small bag of necessities, and a bigger one of "might need" stuff to leave in the car, that way DH won´t have to rummage through the lovingly organised baby dresser looking for things!
Good luck, its getting close now!
