Of those of you that bought gliders/rockers... did you actually use them? Was it worth the money?
DH and I have limited space in our nursery, so we have to make our furiniture selections carefully. We LOVE the gliders at BRU and eye them everytime we're in there.. but I was just wondering if they're actually worth the purchase?

Great question Erin - I've been debating this one myself. I can't wait to hear the responses!

Great question. We bought one, but we got it off of craigslist for $10. We figured it was worth it for that even if we never use it. My sister didn't buy one and wishes she had.
I'm interested to hear who has one and uses it.

I was wondering too. I think it depends on the individual person. My sister used hers all the time with my niece, to rock her to sleep. I think it depends on when you plan to put baby in their crib, if you want to nurse/pump in their room, etc.

My sister bought a glider and never used it, she said it was the worst baby purchase. I borrowed a rocking/glider and used it twice, I have been really lucky and BF came really easy, I can bf Ana sat/stood/lying anywhere, now I am trying to rehome the rocker as my friend doesnt want it back.

Well, girls......I don't have one and have not really missed having one. I guess that it falls into the category of if you don't have something, then you will never miss it, right? I don't know. Anyway, if Tori needs a little rocking, which is only when nothing else works and sometimes rocking does not work either, I will just kinda sway front to back to mimic the movement.

I have one and I use it sometimes, but it is not an essential item for me. I like it, just don't feel like it's a 'must have' for me. We use it to read stories at night, occassionally I feed him in it. Ours came from Craig's List for $25. I am REALLY glad I didn't spend the $200 or more at BRU.

I have one & used it in the beginning & then didn't for a while. It became an oversized clothes hanger. Now I started using it again for the last few weeks. It really is nice for those middle of the night feedings...breast-feeding or not. DH bought mine for me for Christmas but I'd agree with getting it 2nd hand...those darn things are expensive & you can prob find a good one for a fraction of the price, esp since you use it for a short time.
I think we're going to keep our's for a while, even after we stop using it for Allie. We'll just use it in a guest bedroom or something. That way it won't go to waste.

Erin my sister bought a really expensive one and used it maybe three times....so if you have limited space I would definitely pass on it.

Erin, I guess I'm in the minority here. I LOVE my glider and use it for every single feeding. However, I didn't have to buy it - my SIL gave us hers. So I just think it's a personal decision. You just need someplace to feed whether it's a glider or not. Just my opinion.

I'll be the weird one here. My parents bought us the Dutailier one which was expensive, but we have it in our living room and have used it a LOT. We actually slept in it with Nathan the first couple weeks because he couldn't lay flat and his reflux was so bad. So yes, we use it every day, and it's become more of a piece of furniture like our other chairs, etc.

I have a rocking chair downstairs in the living room and a glider in Cherie's room. The only reason I ever use her room for anything other than store her stuff is to use the glider. I an BF anywhere, but Cherie loves being rocked in the rocking chair/glider! It's something I've done with all my godchildren too. It's always been a great way to calm them. For me, it's a necessity.

Ok, so here's an ADDENDUM to the question: is a glider really that much better than a regular rocking chair? We have a beautiful old wooden rocker that we inherited from Ryan's grandma when she passed, and so I'm torn as to whether it is worthwhile investing in a nice padded glider, or just sticking with our old rocker.

We use our glider a lot. I do like it better than the rocking chair we have but I think it depends on your own personal preference. I would just go and try some out and see what you like. We got our glider from BRU and like it a lot.

I'm happy with the rocking chair. I have the one that my grandmother bought my mother when she was pregnant with me, so I BF Cherie in the same chair I was BF in. I just got new cushions for it. If you just do the rocking chair, I recommend an ottoman or something to put your feet on to go with it.

I'm glad the thread turned around to where some of you use it! Initially I wasn't going to get one (although DH said he was going to buy me one anyway), but now I find myself really wanting one. So I hope I use it! Plus my grandmother said I HAD to have one (along with a cradle I didn't intend to get), so she'd probably be mad if I didn't lol
