So today I had my 10 week u/s and what started out to be a happy time quickly turned horrible. We did the u/s got the pics and everything "looked" to be ok. The Dr. came back and I knew something was wrong when the nurse came in and sat behind me. They found a nuclear translucentcy(SP) in the ultrasound. This is possible a sign of a chromosonal deformaty such a Downs, Edwards disease They took blood today, but now I have to see a high risk Dr who deals with nuclear trans.....Words cant express how I feel right now. I am so confused. I asked the Dr what he felt, and he said that there was a definite formed nasal bone and he feels as though it may have just been fluid or something.

The other thing was my OB didnt realize I had a CT done the day prior to me finding out I was pregnant. And stated that I am now at a higher risk of miscarriage. Also with the possible abnormalities that adds to my miscarrige rate.

Good news is that the HN was 178 which is a good strong HB and my OB said he feels strongly that everything is ok. But I am a mess

Has anyone else every had this with a current or past pregnancy? I need advise, I am so lost for words right now, and have to wait till next week to see the high risk Dr.

This is not a definite that there is something wrong. A friend of mine has a little girl who is about 10 now. They had a scare like this with diagnostic ultrasound and were forewarned of the possibility of down syndrome. My friend and her husband decided against an amniocentesis when they were offered it. Their daughter was born with no chromosomal or other issues. A few women in my DDC also had "abnormalities" found to find out on later u/s that nothing was wrong. I hope you have the same experience. I'm sorry you have to go through this.

I'm so sorry Sarah...
It sounds like the DR is going to keep close watch over you, and that he thinks that it might not be anything to be concerned about...I hope that when you get your next U/S they will be able to give you happier news...

Sorry your appointment was so scary, Sarah...having a strong heartbeat it great, though, and like your Dr. said, it *could* just be fluid or something. Try to stay positive, ok? I hope it turns out that your baby is just fine!!

Oh Sarah I'm so sorry your visit was so rough today. My cousin was told the same thing when she was PG with their daughter. She had to see a special doctor for her pregnancy. It turned out to be nothing b/c the baby was perfectly normal when she was born. I dont know if she had an amnio or not. Please try not to worry. I will be praying that your visit with the other doctor will go well.

**hugs**

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I no two differant couples who had these tests done within the past year. Both came back with high chances of Down Syndrome and both babies were delivered and perfectly healthy. Please take comfort in knowing that alot of cases like this happen but the babies are perfectly healthy. You and your baby will be in my thoughts and prayers. (((HUGS)))

I know it's hard, but I'd try not to worry yet. Did they give you the NT measurement? You're actually a little early for the NT scan even, they're typically done after 11 weeks, and no later than 13s6d, are they having you do another u/s? And are they doing the bloodwork too? Even if THOSE come back with a risk, there is still a chance of a false positive, so nothing is definite yet. I'm sure it's scary, I hope everything works out for you.

I'm sorry you got scary news from your u/s. I thought you were supposed to be around 12 weeks for that test, so maybe it's just a false positive. I'll be thinking of you. Hopefully everything is growing as it should in there.
