Ok- for some time now we've had two names picked out for boys
1- Brody Nicholas (Nicholas being after my dad and baby brother that passed away about 2 months after he was born)
2- Colton Travis (after DH obviously)
I have ALWAYS said I'd pick Nicholas as a middle name in honor of both my dad and brother and DH is ok with the first name... But once we also started liking the second name it made it much harder.
I know we can't name our child after everyone... but I think DH would honestly be slightly disappointed that our *possibly* only son isn't named after him. Any ideas/suggestions???????? I thought about both as middle names- but that gets a little long

that's a toughy! on on hand, this "may" be your only son so if Travis wants him named after him (and you are okay with that) it make sense since he's your first born. Then you could use Nicholas for the next baby....but what if the next baby is a girl?
what would you call him if his name is Colton Travis? Colton, Cole? It's really how you feel about naming him Colton Travis too...
Is there a way you can use Nicholas for the next baby, regardless of boy or girl (I know that sounds weird, but you know what I mean).

Well- my #1 name vote is Brody and I think DH's is too! We like Colton and it sounds good with Travis but I DO NOT want nicknames! ie: Cole, Colt, etc. I don't like those names! And I know it's out of my control what people will call him- so I'd rather just go with Brody.
I thought maybe Brody Nicholas Travis but it gets so long. But I do think it's a great idea to use Nicholas for the next baby.. but not sure how DH would feel about it if it were a girl!
Hmmmmmm what to do?

I really like Brody Nicolas Travis but know how you feel about it being too long. You could always called the girl Nicole or Nikki or something more girl, but it would still be in honor of your dad.

I vote for using DH's name as the middle name. That's what we're doing too.
Then if the next baby is a boy, you can use Nicholas. If it's a girl, you can use a variation of Nicholas like Nicole. It will still have just as much meaning. My friend named her daughter Claudia after her dad Claude. It's cute for the grandfather and granddaughter to have such a special little bond. Just my !

Well, here's my two cents. I'd pick Brody Nicholas after your dad and brother. I know you want Travis's name in there, but he will have his last name already. So, I'd say go with Nicholas after your brother and dad. It's so sentimental. Just my thoughts.

Even though it is still really early for us...DH and I have decided to do two second names...is that an option??? We will be doing middle names of Robert and Henri (Robert, my dad, Henri DH's dad who has passed away!!)

I know what you mean.....it's hard!
Zane has 2 middle names (one being his dad and great grandpa's middle names)
Zane Gibson-Porter, yes it's a bit long but we wanted to have both names in there and we hypenated them to make it easier for him with middle initial issues that may araise.
I like Colton Brody Travis together or Brody Nicholas Travis. Good luck!

Just my .... I was gonna say the same thing... he'll likely always have DH's last name unlike a girl who may or may not change it if she gets married. If you guys are really conflicted, I'd try the 2 middle names. It may seem long at first, but you'll get used to it with time I'm sure! I do love all the names you are trying to chose between though! You really can't go wrong!

Yeah, I'd vote using your dad's name rather than DH. I don't think your son would ever forget who daddy is, and it would be such a nice tribute to your father. I'm *personally* a fan of using names of older family members as a tribute to them, knowing how special it will make them feel.

I LOVE Brody Nicholas...I think I like it more, though I think Travis is a good name also (I've known some really good Travis' in my time )
I'm not as big of a fan of Colten...
Just cause he'd be called Colt...

Just dropping by to put in my 2 cents! I really like the idea of 2 middle names! My hubby has 2 middle names; his two middles are each of his grandfather's first names! He is the first person I had ever met that had 2 middle names and I think it is just so unique! We will be carrying on the tradition with our future children! A son would get DH's middle names, and a daughter would get mine along with another!
I really Love Brody Nicholas Travis, I think it is a very nice name!

Could you do Nicholas Travis or vice versa? Personally I like Brody Nicholas & that'd be my vote. You have to do what you feel in your heart. You don't want to have any regrets. There's someone in my PR who changed her child's name several times, even after he was born because it just didn't feel right. So I say go with your gut even if it means leaving out someone else's name.
My daughter has 2 middle names, but we just don't regularly use the 2nd one. It's just there legally. Legally, her full name is Alexandra Sivan Gloria M-. Gloria is after my grandmother who raised me. There was no way on earth I wouldn't honor my grandmother who passed away almost 5 years ago. We were super super close. But it didn't exactly flow with the rest of her name. So it's there technically speaking, but we don't use it everyday. But that's just what we chose to do
Good luck...picking names is really hard! When I was pg & we thought we were having a boy, we were back & forth & couldn't decide for anything! I'm glad we had a girl because we were able to agree right away!

Im no help because I LOVE Brody Nicholas!! I have two middle names and I HATE it, thats just me personally though. Its sooooo long, on my wedding invitations I barely had room! I agree with the girls who said go with your dads name (and brother) rather than DH's just because he'll already have DH's last name and he wont have a name that relates to your dad/brother. I think that is very sweet.
