Just checking in on you and Summer........

Hey, I remember reading in your PR a while back about having Summer tested because of her weight situation. Have they started that testing?

thanks for thinking of us Becky!!

Sorry I missed this earlier! we just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii

Summer wasn't eating solids (puree's) and was losing weight. They thought it was because of her inverted chin so they sent us of to a Cranial facial clinic. She was seen by everyone from Peditricians to Oral Surgeons. The conclusion was yes she has an inverted chin but they didn't see why that was causing issues eating, because she could suck a bottle fine.

Fast forward a few weeks and she is eating!! she is VERY independent will only feed herself, she eats chunks of food so we totally skipped puree's altogether... which I am kinda bummed about because I bought that Beaba Baby Cook it was $149 and I used it once!! I have no need for it as a regular steamer so I should probably sell it.

Summer started eating when we were in Hawaii so maybe all of us sitting around eating all day inspired her? (i gained 7lbs!! - opps!!)

We went to see the feeding specialist again on Tuesday and she is so happy with Summer's progress we don't have to go back unless we encounter problems!

Summer is still underweight, she is only 16lbs 8oz so I have to use butter and olive oil in her food.

I cannot express how relieved I am that she is eating now!!

PHEW!!

That is great Tam!! I have totally discovered that Tori will just not eat the jarred purees very well at all!! She just cries the whole time and I feel like I am force feeding her so I typically just give up. My other problem is that she does not have any teeth yet and I am afraid to give her food from the table that she could pick up and feed herself like green beans or something.

Is there a fix/treatment for her inverted chin?

Kadee skipped purees too Tam, we were having massive issues with her eating and were seeing Speech Therapists to try and fix it all. We were just about at panick stations and all of a sudden she eats finger foods. No looking back now, she LOVES her food.

Becky, even without teeth, they can use their gums pretty good with really mushy food (mashed or cooked potatoes, overcooked noodles, mushy broccoli or cauliflower, tiny pieces of bread/toast w/ butter, cut up fruits like bananas, blueberries, etc). That's what Christian did in April when my parents were here and we gave him bits of food. Didn't mean to thread jack lol I hope you guys find something that works for her.

Pardon my ignorance, but I've never heard of an inverted chin?

Becky, like Karly said, as long as the food is mushable or meltable then it should be safe. In other cultures, babies eat everything their mommies do, as the mommies chew it first and then give it to the wee ones. IF you are going to give her purees, then you might try adding tons of flavor through spices and see if she likes them better.

I'm a speech therapist and really love the feeding therapy!
