Alice's ophthalmologist appt. was today. After waiting for THREE hours (not counting the fact that we were 25 min. early) we were finally seen and talked to for about half an hour. I was annoyed with the wait, but she seemed to know what she was talking about and was thorough, even if she was rushed. They said pretty much exactly what I knew they would say... Blocked duct, massage the duct, use warm compresses, wipe the eye with the ointment to fend off infection, etc. If it persists until Alice is a year old, they will want to anesthesize her and use a probe to manually open the duct. We have a follow up appt next week (not sure of exact day yet) to look at the eye again and see if the infection is cleared up at all. The doc said that the eyes themselves are very healthy... it is the right duct tht is causing probs.

Thanks for the well wishes and thoughts ladies.

Yuck-o for the wait! I am glad there is nothing affecting her vision. Hopefully that tear duct will get better all on it's own!

My friend's baby had that same problem. She outgrew it all on her own. I hope that Alice is as lucky.

My Goddaughter had the same problem... the Dr told them to wait the year as well. Her's ended up clearing after I think about 8 months on it's own. Hopefully Alice's will clear up really quickly.

I'm not sure if you've heard of it or already tried it, Lauren, but I've heard that using breastmilk on a blocked tear duct helps clear it up. It didn't work for us (Nathan's are still blocked, thankfully, they've never been infected), but it's worked for a lot of Moms in my PR.
Hope it clears up soon!

I'm glad her eyes were normal. Too bad it is such a liong wait to get thed problem fixed if it doesn't clear up on its own. Hopefully the compresses and things will do the trick.

My friends son had the same thing. Once he got the duct cleaned (he got sick often) he was lots better. Unfortunately his did not clear up on his own, but the clearing of it didn't seem to effect him that much. (I can find out more info if you would like, what it would involve if she did have to go through that) I really hope hers does clear up on her own, and I'm glad that her eyes themselves are good!!!

Both my girls had clogged ducts until they were 3 1/2 months old. I used eyedrops (Vigamox) and massaged the ducts. It took forever! I was so glad to see that go away!
