First, Gwen, I totally forgot to put your number in my phone..and everything happened so fast that I didn't remember that until we were at the hospital.
Persephonee Norma was born 7/17 at 4:19am. She weighed 6lb 1oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. She is amazing.
Her name: we just like the sound of her first name. And we had to use 2 ee's for me. And Norma is my Gramma.
But, labor was very hard for me! Remember that I started posting on a Tuesday about my contractions...well they didn't stop until she was born on Friday! I had a 56 hour labor. I will post a more detailed birth story soon, since I was obsessed with reading birth stories, I want to make sure to post one. I will share this now, though. I went to the hospital on Thursday morning (I think I told you all this) and they said I was in prodromal labor. (not real labor but real pain) So they gave me morphine (I know!) and versitral? to stop the contractions and let me sleep. I was supposed to sleep for 4 hours at the hospital, but they sent me home after 2. Well, about an hour and a half after being home...my water broke! So we went back to the hospital...but this time we didn't leave until we had a baby!
I didn't really have any complications. I was just SO tired from not sleeping for days that I broke down and had an epi at 8 cms. I just couldn't do it anymore.
Breastfeeding is OK. It still hurts at first, but hopefully that will get better. And all the nurses and DH think she needs a pacifier. She does like to suck all the time. We finally bought some of the soothie ones, but I am still afraid to give it to her. Any advice out there from btdt moms?
Here are some pics...sorry there are a lot...
Getting ready to leave the hospital:

Persephonee Norma:
Sorry for not posting this sooner. Newborns are a lot of work!

Congrats. Besides the super long labor, I'm glad everything went well and that you're both okay.

She is sooo tiny and super cute! I'm sorry you had such a long labor, but I am glad that everything turned out so well!
If you really want to BF... you might want to hold off on the pacifier, it confuses them. They want to nurse alot at first, but I promise it does get better.

She is gorgeous, Amee. I can't believe how tiny she seems compared to Elliott. Totally makes me miss the scrunched-up newborn stage. . . not the sleepless nights, but how super-cuddly they are.
As for pacifiers, in my experience and education from a variety of courses (I am a speech therapist), only infants with some difficulty eating/nursing have nipple confusion. Babies, especially newborns, have a strong need for non-nutritive sucking as the sucking releases serotonin (the feel-good hormone) and allows them to relax/soothe themselves. Elliott has had a paci since he was born and never had any issues with sucking/latching/refusing or anything of the sort. And there was no way that the paci interfered w/ his desire to eat. Trust me, if that child wanted to eat--he let me know about it, paci or no paci! He would completely refuse the pacifier when hungry.
I know it's not the path for everyone, but there's my :twocents: for what it's worth.
