(x-posted in DDC)
so my doctor's office just called and I failed my 1 hr test. My sugars were 178 and the range should be 65-139. I called and made an appt for my 3 hour and I have to go in at 6:30 am !! that's so freaking early.
My sister, who has GD, told me from now until next Tuesday I need to eat like I have GD to control my sugars.
I'm really bummed and I hope I pass this time around.

I'm sorry! I hope you pass the 3 hour one! One of my good friends had GD and my mom and DH's mom had it once each time out of their 3 pregnancies.

Hope you pass your 3 hour test! Sorry you have to get up soooo early. 6:30 seems way to early to have someone in for a blood test.

That sucks! I had GD, so please let me know if you have any questions. I've gotten good at finding yummy fruits, breads etc that I can handle without my blood sugars going up. I hope you pass the three hour.

I'm sorry you failed. I wouldn't change the way you're eating though. If you do eat differently, go to your 3-hr and pass, then go home and eat the same way you are now, you may do more harm than good in hiding the fact that you may really have GD. Does that make sense? I wouldn't change a thing so that your results are accurate. Good luck at your 3-hr!

with Karly. Be honest what you have been eating and show it during the test.. then afterwards, you can change what you eat.
My mom had GD with my sister. Man I remember the stick in finger testing (brain fart.. what do you call them!?).. my mom hated the old fashioned needles..she'd get bruises on her fingers! it was 1996! Today's needle are better!
I hope you don't get GD! Good luck and hang in there!

Ugh, that stinks. Hopefully you'll pass the 3 hour...and it IS super early, but on the plus side, at least you don't have to be AWAKE while you are fasting!!

thanks for the support ladies
It's definitely easier to be on the outside and telling me to not hide my eating than it is to be actually facing the test. I get what your saying, but you won't have to be the one who gives yourself insulin shots 2-4 times a day and check your sugars several times a day for the next 12 weeks!
I'm going to stick to my eating plan and go from there. If my numbers were off the chart, then yes I would own up to it, but they aren't that far off so I'm not concerned about tricking the test. I also will keep myself eating the "healthy" way until the end because it'll be good for both Bella and I, regardless of my 3hr test outcome.

I hope you pass the 3 hour. I would definitley watch what you eat and continue it from here on in. It will be better for the two of you anyway so no harm there. I have to eat better as well. I have my one hour test next month and i'm terrified of failing.

It's not easy going through that. I had to cook specific foods for my mother while she was going through GD. She was on bedrest for a while. I was 16 yrs old that time when she was pregnant with my sister. My mom was miserable not able to eat whatever she wanted. My aunt J also went through with her daughter.
My DH is diabetic and he was using insulin shots and I had to help him do it at times.
Yes it's easier said than done. You can do it.

You may not need insulin at all and you don't have to be miserable with what you eat. I haven't been on insulin and my numbers aren't getting any worse as my pregnancy goes along. Making sure I remember to check my blood sugars can be obnoxious, but if you forget a few times it's no big deal. Honestly, I don't find my GD diet bad at all. I ate really well to start with, but this forces me not to eat too much junk. You should still enjoy a treat periodically if you have GD. I love dark chocolate and eat some almost every day. There are tons of things you can eat that are really yummy, you just have to pick and choose. Peaches and cherries are low glycemic. I can eat a lot of those without my blood sugar going up. Bananas are higher glycemic, so I try to only eat 1/2 of a big banana at a time. If I eat a whole one, I make sure I eat some protein with it (like peanut butter). I do a lot of cottage cheese w/ fruit in it as a snack. This afternoon I ate a big bowl of chopped tomatoes, basil, kalamata olives, and goat cheese with balsamic vinegar on it. So good and good for both baby and me.
If you do have GD, you're likely to be like most people and have more issues with your sugars in the morning. I don't eat fruit with breakfast any more. I can still do things like 1/2 of a whole wheat bagel, oatmeal (not instant) as long as I have protein with it and some days I do french toast. If you can find sprouted grain breads you'll be able to eat more bread. That's what I use for french toast and sandwiches. Trader Joe's has a few selections of sprouted grain breads that are really great. They have lower carbs and higher protein than other breads. It took me a while to figure out what I could eat at what times of day, but I know what I can cheat with now without my sugars being out of whack.

I would definately keep eating as your normally do until after your 3 hour test. Many people fail their one hour and pass the three hour! And I hate to say it, but your numbers were pretty high for the one hour. (Just from my expierence working in a lab) I would b e very cautious to catch any GD for your health and the health of your baby!
And Celry is right, you may not need insulin. I know of plently of moms who are able to control their GD by diet and diet alone.
I really hope you pass your three hour test! I will be thinking about you!

I hope you pass the 3-hour!
I agree with eating like normal. If you do have GD and manage to "trick" the test then go back to eating as you did before, that would be dangerous for you and baby. Or even if you continue to eat well, the GD could still get worse. It's important to have accurate results. Many people with GD don't need insulin, and many women fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour. But honesty is important for your health.

I was gonna say the same thing and I HAVE been sticking myself every day (now twice a day) since 3 DPO...not to mention the 5 usuccessful cycles before this one from 3 DPO until AF showed...and I still agree with the other girls. If you cut out all sugars and eat really well and pass then go home and eat normally again it can do more harm than good. You want your baby to be healthy regardless of whether you have GD or not. Unless of course you are going to be strict the entire rest of your pregnancy. But why do that to yourself because you will never know if you actually would have passed the 3 hour honestly and then you could have all the ice cream you want...and believe me you will want it towards the end!
