I just want to share with you what I have found. Let me start out by saying... Kerrigan has been having a really hard time with gas and belly aches lately. She has been miserable. My mother was sure she had colic. I knew differently though. I don't know how I knew, but I did. So I changed my diet... no milk, eggs, nuts, onions, peppers, broccoli.... and so on. Then the pediatrician told me to try mylicon BEFORE her feeding (the directions say after her feeding). That didn't work either. I have been so disheartened the last several days because I thought I was going to have to give up BF and switch to FF. I love BF. Well I went on Le Leche and found this:

LLLI | Oversupply

I never even knew this was possible. So finish one side before you switch to the other breast!!! It will save you alot of headaches. I cannot wait to fix this problem!

I saw this on the Kelly Mom website, I really recommend the breast compression as Ana was a lazy eater and wouldnt suck to empty one side before rooting for the other. Once I made her empty it completetly she was much happier and slept longer.

Great info. My sister had to make sure she pumped for a minute or two prior to feeding her second as her let down was too fast and watery and he would just scream then not finish eating.

Yesterday I started making sure each girl finished on the same breast she started on for a feeding. I haven't been doing it long enough to know for sure if it's making a difference, but they slept much better last night.

There is a 'blocking' technique, too, where they eat off only one breast for up to 3 feedings in a row to get more of the hindmilk. I think there's a link on kellymom.com about a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.

I was going to mention block feeding too. If she has a hard time finishing, definitely give that a try! I generally only feed 1 side each feed.
