I am starting to look into a baby registry and I am trying to figure out what is useful vs. unnecessary. Are there any things you would recommend definitely getting or staying away from? Thanks!

Here's my list copied from another thread

We registered for the important esstentials for the first 4 months....things like highchair, exersaucer, jumper we'll get when he needs them...but for us we wanted to be certain the esstentials were covered:

-baby carrier: i love our sleepywear wrap (just like Moby) and our MeiTai.
-diapers/wipes stock up now if you can
-some bottles- different kinds and different nipples, not sure which they'll want
-bottle brush
-bottle dishwasher basket
-some pacifiers- same as above
-clothes- sleepers, shirts, pants, socks, hats, gowns (I recommend registering/having an outfit in every size....preemie, newborn, 0-3, 3-6 especially for your hospital bag...Zane's clothes were all too big on him I had to go get him some preemie outfits, wish people would have told me this...they all said to have like 4 newborn outfits and mostly 0-3. And each brand fits differently....carter's runs a lil big, old navy runs small, jsut a lil heads up )
-tons of receiving blankets- we use them for everything, we like the thermal ones, Baby Gap ones, the flannel ones aren't big, unless they are the Carter's brand.
-boppy
-car seat- We bought a convertible one first to be frugal....but after realizing going out to eat would be impossible as our stroller is huge and would rather have him in an infant car seat...so we ended up buying one after. Makes it so much easier.
-snuzzler
-stroller
-breast pump- I have the single swing by Medela, since I don't pump 24/7, I like it!
-nursing pads- I love my organic cotton resuable ones, so soft and cheaper! I went through the disposables like crazy, I was spending like $35 a month on them.
-Lansinoh storage bags
-nursing cover
-diaper bag
-swing
-bouncer
-baby towels/washcloths
-health and grooming kit
-colic tablets
-gripe water
-saline drops
-baby toiletries, diaper rash cream- We use Burts Bees or Earth's Best and we like them

I had a lot of things given or leant to me that I never used, I had a really expensive baby chair/bouncer which she used for the first month, then she wanted to sit herself up too much and hated being strapped into it, its now in the garage!!.

I also borrowed a pram (carrycot/bassinet) and she slept in it for 3 months and we used it all the time. Now we have an umbrella from birth stroller and its so much easier so unless you dont use the car much, iŽd buy an umbrella stroller.

Bottles: I got a really good deal on a microwave steriliser/breast pump and bottle set, but I havent used any of it except the breast pump (which has its own steriliser box) and now she drinks expressed milk out of a sippy cup or I feed it her on a spoon. (shes 5 months). I havent even opened the bottles.

I also had way too many clothes, try to get people to buy you basics in the bigger sizes, then you can choose the outfits yourself. I havent bought a single thing for Ana in smaller than 6-9 months as she has so many.

Cot mobile: buy a bright coloured one, the pretty pastel ones dont catch their attention as much (but they look cute in the nursery!!)

And I know its only for 4-6 weeks, but buy some tiny tiny clothes, I had NB and then got some early baby sizes as the NB were massive. (some of the tops and tshirts still fit now!!.

Baby lotions/potions etc: I only use almond oil as a moisturiser/baby lotion/nappy cream and she has the softest, blemish free skin ever, and its cheap and 100% natural.

I have a baby bjorn and its fantastic, but its the lumbar support one, I think the basic version is just as good and doesnt make your back sweat as much!!.

Baby gap socks are the only ones that stay on, so if youŽre having a winter baby its worth sales shopping!!

Baby gowns are so much easier than sleepers .

Its a bit of a novel, but I loved reading the lists whilst i was baby shopping!
