Just curious as to what everyone thinks about the H1N1 virus? Will you get it? What about for your babies?

I just talked to my midwife about this yesterday--- she said they will be going with the CDC's rec. and will most like recommend me getting it. I told her I was very apprehensive, considering it's not tested on pregnant women, it's only been tested for maybe 6 months and there's no research on how it may affect my unborn baby. She said she understood but they would still be going with whatever the CDC recommends. I doubt I'll be getting the vaccine.

I'm very conflicted about this. I always get the regular flu vaccine and will do so in a few weeks, but I honestly don't know what to do about the H1N1 vaccine. I told my DH to do some research on it at work today and get back to me (he's a doctor), but I still don't know if I feel comfortable getting it. Ugh, so confusing.

I plan to talk to my Dr next Friday at my next appointment and see what he recommends. The fact that it's so new worries me a little too, but if he recommends it (as does the CDC) I will probably get the vaccine.

DH will get it when its released at the ned of October (heŽs a health worker) and Ana will get one as she is under 12 months, guess its just me that will catch it!!, I usually get the regular flu jab so I guess IŽll just get that.
I would get it if I was still PG as this week 3 pg women have died in my region (8 million people), luckily in 2 cases they managed succesful caesarians.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I know this can be a very controversial topic. I"m so very torn on what to do about this. I know Paige can not get the shot because she is not 6 months old yet, but I'm torn on if DH and I should get it to prevent her from getting it. It's tough. Still gotta do more research. I love hearing everyone's opinions.
This got brought up because my work is offering it first (since we are considered first responders) to us and our immediate family. Such a tough decision.

I've been wondering about this as well. I'm really not sure what i'll do. I'll have to talk to my doctor and do some more research before i decide.

None of us will be getting it, we don't get the flu vax so won't be getting this one. From our research, opinions and beliefs we chose not to vax Zane.

I am not getting the vaccine...I've had a lot of time to think about it (since we have 4 suspected cases in my school alone), and even though there is nothing that has shown that it isn't safe, theres not much that shows that it is either...as well as dosage info and the fact that I respond horribly to the flu shot alone (usually end up with a pretty good size fever for a while)...
I already have Tamiflu (ordered by my OB ) that has been proven to work for swine flu effectively if taken first thing, and even that is a Class C drug, so I have decided that I'm not going to rush into it unless needed...

Just an FYI for you all, I was a suspected swine flu case in June, and I used Tamiflu along with lots of rest and hydration and I was back to feeling close to 100% within a week.

Not sure what I'm going to do, but since it is so new probably not. Even though I'm a nurse I work on post-op patients and most likely won't be exposed. I will discuss it with my doc and see what he thinks though.

I normally wouldn't get it, but I'm just super worried about getting it and then giving it to Paige. I would never be able to forgive myself if that were to happen. IDK what to do...I mean they wouldn't put it out there if it weren't safe right? DH said he is definitely getting it, but I'm still super torn.

Hmm working for a pharmaceutical company it really worries me how fast this vaccine got approved, I mean it takes so many years of testing and studies to get a normal drug approved I feel as if this is a scare tactic, I am not going to get it unless they hold me down and give it to me.....

I'm terrified about the swine flu because of Camila and on the other hand I'm torn between thinking that I can harm her by vaccinating her and I can harm her by not doing it I'm a mess over this. I spoke to her dr. and she said that at six months if she is eligible according to the list the CDC has she will be recommending it but I'm not sure on what to do.

I will be getting the regular flu vaccine - I do every year. And although I am a strong supporter of vaccinations, I tend to agree that this one seems to have been approved really quickly. So I'm hesitant. I will have to do some more research before I say yes.

I don't get the flu vaccine and seriously doubt that I will be getting the H1N1 vaccine, either. I don't see us getting the vax to Elliott, either.. . although my DH and I disagree on the flu shot, so that may change.

I am going to talk with my doctor about this at my next appt and see what the CDC recommends for pregnant woman. My biggest concern is working with so many people at a school, adults and children.

No, we won't get it. It's a live virus vaccine, has a very disturbing ingredient list, and we are not willing to be guinea pigs for a vaccine that at best was minimally tested. We will take extra precautions to try to avoid getting infected and will spend a lot of time at home if there is an epidemic.

That's not true. Drugs are taken off the market on a regular basis because they are found to be harmful after they're released. Vaccines have gone on the market before and then taken off because of issues. This vaccine is very new. There is no way to know what long term effects it may have.

I will most likely get it. H1N1 was shown to have particularly deleterious effects on pregnant women (including pneumonia and death), and that we get infected at a disproportionate rate, so I feel that it's in my best interest. I recognize it is new, but it also is being created the same way as the regular seasonal flu vaccine, which has been used for many many years with minimal severe problems (and produced new every year, so just as 'untested' as H1N1 in that sense), so I feel fairly comfortable with it.
