(x-posted in DDC)

Starting this past Wednesday I came down with a nasty cold (so I thought). Thursday night I ended up going to the regular ER because my throat hurt so bad that everytime I swallowed I would have to cringe in pain and I was in tears. Come to find out I most likely have tonsilitis and there is NOTHING they can give me (gotta love being preggo at the time like this).

So, Friday afternoon I was laying in bed and started noticing my braxton hicks were becoming a pattern and more noticable. DH was headed out for happy hour with his guy friends (he needed a break b/c he was being a fantastic husband and taking care of me). Maybe an hour after he left I started feeling these pains. On our birthing DVD, she said that if you are laying down with BHs, get up and walk around or vice versa. After walking with no change, I sat down with a huge glass of water, propped my feet up to see if that helped. I, all of a sudden, couldn't get comfortable sitting. I'm like WTH?! So, I called my mom and she suggested I needed to go to triage to be checked. I called poor DH who was just starting to enjoy himself that he needed to come home and take me in (that kinda freaked him out).

I called the doc in the meantime and was waiting for a call back. An HOUR goes by and still no call! I called again and stressed the importance of her return call. 5 minutes later she is on the phone telling me to come in.

I thought I was just dehydrated from being sick and that I wasn't having real labor, just stronger BHs. Sure enough, those bad boys were showing up on the monitor and coming every 6 minutes. They checked me (holy hannah, I thought he was trying to reach for my tonsils!) and I wasn't dialated but I was 30% effaced. They pushed 2 bags of IV fluids through me to see if that helped and it didn't. My doc said to give me a shot of terbutiline (sp) to stop my contractions. Thankfully that worked otherwise I would have been admitted and put on Mag Sulfate.

So, needless to say, Bella was giving me a run for my money this weekend. We had a nice little chat and I told her she needed to hang in there for at least 6 more weeks!

MY goodness that is a bit scary girl! I'm glad those contractions stopped though... I hope your throat starts to feel better soon. I know what you mean about feeling sick or at least allergic during pregnancy. I have bad Hay fever and I'm allergic to ragwead......... I can't take anything either. But I rather be allergic than have a nasty sore throat, I really hate those especially! Hang in there only a few weeks to go...

Terb is a great drug when it works. I'm glad your visit was as uneventful as it was. Hopefully Bella listens and stays put.

Val, I was thinking of you when they told me they were giving me terb and I COMMEND you for doing it as often as you had to! Holy Hannah, that's a crazy drug! Did you get the side effect of the heart racing? I felt like I was on crack! But hey, whatever works to keep her in there!

Sounds like you had a miserable weekend. I'm glad the contractions stopped though. We don't want your little one here quite so soon! I hope your throat gets better soon too.

How scary!!! I'm so glad they were able to get the contractions to stop. Hopefully that'll be the end of it - no early entrance for baby, please! As for the tonsils, that really stinks. I am just now getting over a really nasty head and chest cold, and feel you on the limited drugs thing, though I'm sure the pain I felt was nothing compared to what you're dealing with. Hope you feel better soon!!

I had a follow up appt today and she said I was okay to do my usual activities. She just gave me guidelines on what to look for in my contractions to whether or not I would have to go in again. I think if I was dialated any, it would be a different story!
