So Haylea had been progressively getting fussier and fussier at night and would just grunt and squirm all night and want to either be held or fed constantly. I knew it wasn't a growth spurt again because we just finished one and she didn't act that way during the day. She really would only nap well in someone's arms or in her swing though so we decided after the other night of me being awake ALL night long until 630am when I came downstairs and put her in her swing that we would take the swing upstairs last night and try putting her in it. I talked to my sister first to see if she thought it was a bad idea...not wanting her to get used to sleeping in it and she suggested we also try our sleep wedge. I had one but hadn't used it because I didn't really think she had reflux and I also am hesitant about putting anything extra in the bed with her...just thought that she wanted to be held all night long. Well we tried the wedge last night and it was amazing! She slept well and didn't grunt and squirm at all! She still woke up every 2 hours to eat but went back to sleep! I think maybe she was silently refluxing because she rarely spits up but the more I listen to her when she is grunting it is more like she is clearing her throat and then probably re-swallowing it. I think the reason she likes the swing so much was because it is inclined. I just hope it wasn't a fluke last night and the wedge really is what made her sleep better...I know I did!

That's awesome April!!! I hope it wasn't a fluke and this continues! FYI the swallowing sound is definitely reflux. That's what poor Paige does (or did until the meds) and its just so heartbreaking. I hope the wedge continues to help and you can continue getting sleep!!!

We used one of those, too, and it worked great. It also worked well in the beginning to relieve my fears that Amelia would get herself into a bad sleeping position. I haven't used it recently, but I might try it again tonight now that you've reminded me of it. Amelia is a major squirmer and now that we're using the cosleeper she moves around to some positions that make me nervous. She loves to sleep on her side with her head cranked back. I always try to move her to a more in line position, but she always goes back.

Ahhh, precious sleep! I am so glad that Haylea got some relief from the reflux and you got some extra shut-eye. Hope it continues!

I read that with reflux they will extend their heads back like that to open up their airway more...might try the wedge again and see if that helps!

Lack of sleep is something that you cant really describe well 2nd hand!! People who havent experienced cant understand!
I´m so glad that shes letting you sleep more, and more importantly that she is feeling better, it must be awful to feel sick and not be able to do anything about it.

I've heard of people putting the sleep wedge underneath a mattress for their baby.. I'm not sure if it's only a certain kind of wedge or anything. But I just wanted to suggest it in case you wanted to give it a try rather than having Haylea sleep right on top of it.

However - if I were you, I'd probably be too nervous of changing it up incase she went back to sleeping poorly. We were always too nervous to mess around with something that worked!
