If i border between m-l with regular clothes (shirts) is it probably best to get the larger size right? At Old Navy i'm usually a medium but it seems like if i got a large it would fit longer and be more comfy? I mean, are maternity shirts meant to last the whole way through like no matter how big you get they're still supposed to fit? Someone educate me on how to maternity shop i might go while Old Navy is having their sale

If you border between a med and a large - I would go with the large.. keep in mind your stomach and boobs are going to grow and you want that extra room.
If you get the right size from the beginning it should fit the whole way through

I'd definitely go with the large. I started out with mediums but then went to large to accomodate the growing belly, boobs, and extra weight I didn't really need to put on

Some maternity clothes run larger. I usually wear a large but in maternity clothes I am a medium. But I think you can return Old Navy's stuff at the store if its the wrong size.

I agree. I usually get medium shirts at Old Navy but the maternity shirts are too big on me in medium so I always get small. I initially bought them early in my second trimester and they still fit great in my third. But I have small boobs and they've only gotten a tiny bit bigger since getting pregnant so I don't have that issue.
EDIT: I definitely recommend trying them on - it's real easy to tell if they are big on you even when your bump is still small by looking at how it fits in the shoulders. When I tried on mediums I noticed right away that they were hanging off me funny.

Just a word of caution: Old Navy's maternity clothes run really big! I typically wear XL there but I often wore Large in maternity from there.

I dont know about old navy, but I always bought a size smaller than non mat stuff, as I have little boobs (which annoyingly never grew with pg, or with bf, even after 5 months!!) And even though I put on 42lb, I still never fitted some of the shirts I bought. And if theyre smaller, they make great bf tops as theres more tummy material to hide the fluffy pp area!!

Oh definitely - if the shoulder seams are sagging down your arm then it's probably not a good fit, or if it seems extra roomy up top around the shoulders, neck and chest area that's a good indicator. I always hate when I try on a shirt and the shoulder area of the shirt "pops" up funny.
Definitely take advantage of the same now! You're going to need those clothes soon and you might as well save some money on them since they are so dang expensive usually. I'm hoping to buy a few things from the sale myself.

The one thing that's annoyed me is that the shirts can be so long! I bought 6 M from Kohl's (online) when they were buy one get one free. Most of them fit, but 2 of them are STILL like dresses. I'll be able to wear them the last 4 weeks maybe! lol

I wish the shirts I had were long, it seemed no matter how long they looked, when you get right near the end and feel like a whale, the shirts arent long enough.

Agreed, Emma. I was down to just a few shirts the last couple of weeks because otherwise my belly was peeking out the bottom.

Would getting the larger size help that problem? I'll probably get mediums for now since like i said i'm not even showing yet but would switching to large at the end help with the length issue or would that not really matter?

To deal with the length issue near the end I just bought a couple of lightweight tanks from Target in black and white. I think they were like $8 and they really extended the life of my maternity and non-maternity shirts. Then after I had Amelia and still needed the lenght they came in handy again when switching back to my pre-preggo shirts. That way I didn't have to buy a ton of different size shirts.

go with the larger size. You'll be glad you did, not to mention more comfortable. Better to be a little bigger than too small...that just looks awkward & you'll be annoyed with having to adjust & pull things down..
I went from a size medium to an extra large while I was pregnant, so no...you don't always stay the same size!
