I really need to buy a good and quick thermometer to keep in the house, one thats good for dh and I to use, and also one that would be good for the kids that come through my house (the little girl I watch during the week, and my Nieces and Nephew). I cant decide what kind to get..I really want whatever one is the most accurate, but also one that is easy to use and takes the temp quick (for the little ones). So im wondering, would the two options for me be a temporal (forhead swipe one) or an ear thermometer? Which of the two do you believe is better and more accurate? Thanks for your help ladies!

Actually for little ones axillary temps are most accurate...just use a regular oral therm.

I agree with April. Most, if not all, pediatricians will tell you that!! That being said, I understand that you may not want to take a temp of a child that is really not your child in that manner. I am going to add that we have an ear therm and temporal therm, we have measured on ourselves against our oral one and the temporal seems to be a really close match. Also, we have taken both on Tori as well against an oral and the ear therm is really hard to stick far enough down into the ear canal to obtain an accurate reading because her ear was too small. Anyway, I would say to try a temporal over the ear.

I have a braun thermoscan, its an ear one, and what they use in all the maternity hospitals here. It takes less than a second to read and is really easy to use, I have no trouble getting a good reading from Ana and she is a wriggler.
I did have a mercury hospital thermometre, but they have just banned them here now, so we had to get a new one.
