Ugh, I knew when I saw that the doctors office was calling it would be about my test last week! My number was 155 and their cut off is 139. So I'm taking the 3 hour tomorrow. Any advice on how to pass the time? I'm trying not to worry yet, especially since they didn't have me fast at all for my 1 hour and it was at 4:30 in the afternoon. I guess I'll just have to wait and see the results from tomorrows...

Try not to stress! I was borderline with my 1 hour - I was 139 and the cut off was 140 - so the doctor recommended I take the 3 hour, so I did. I didn't fast before my 1 hour because the doctor didn't say I needed to, she said to have breakfast like usual. I passed the 3 hour test with no problems and am glad I took it so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Definitely take a book or some other form of entertainment - it's sooooo boring sitting there! Luckily the lab at the hospital here had a TV and they offered me the remote. Prepare for at least 4 needle sticks - I got one when I first got there to test my fasting glucose, I drank the Glucola, and then had draws at 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours. And take a snack so you can eat something after your final draw - I had a granola bar and apple in my bag. And you can sip on water during the test so take a bottle of water with you.

Good luck!

Sorry you didn't pass your one hour. Three hours is a long time to wait in a lab. Hopefully they will have a TV and some magazines but I would bring something of your own to do too.

Hope you pass with flying colors!

I failed the 1 hr, too. But then when I took the three hour my sugar levels got so low that they made me stay and eat some graham crackers and drink some OJ. Needless to say, I didn't have GD. I bet you'll be fine. Bring some magazines to read.

if you have one, I brought my portable DVD player and watched a movie while waiting. It really made the time go by faster (just be sure to bring headphones!) As far as ways to pass, it's inevitable whether you have it or not. The good thing is, if you DO have GD, they will be able to see how you break down the sugars and treat you that way. I passed my fasting, failed my 1hr and 2hr but passed 3hr. Because of this, I was able to control by diet and exercise and not go on insulin. So, for a brighter note, if you happen to get dx with GD it's not so bad!

Thanks ladies. I didn't start my test till 9:30 so it was a little rough fasting from dinner the night before. But I made it through my 4 blood draws. The lab is about a mile from my house and they let me go home inbetween. I don't think I would have made it otherwise! I played with my kitten Tiko while home, and it helped to take my mind off of how I was feeling. I am tired now, but thinking its from skipping a meal and all that blood! Cross your fingers for a good result!
