Does anyone have one? I know Tonya you do... i'm looking for any information for home ones, brand reccomendations, rent vs buy, how much are they? Can you get them on e bay?

Anyone tell me anything you want! I'm feeling very very paranoid since i have hardly any symptoms and i think it might ease my worry a little in between appts?

I bought the angel sounds doppler for about $30.00 online. It has worked perfectly every time I really like it because it has headphones, so you can hear better. I was able to hear the heartbeat at about 11-12 weeks.

I got a Hibebe doppler - I think it was around $80-90 shipped on ebay...

I have a very retroverted uterus, so, I was able to hear the H/B for the first time at around 12.5 weeks...I think I could have heard it sooner otherwise...

I rented one from Baby Beat (it was $48/month I think?) I didn't want to buy one because I believe this was 3mhz and the ones I found to buy were 2 and I didn't want to risk them not working! I heard the HB consistently after 10 weeks. The only time I couldn't hear it was the very first time I tried, but after that in the early weeks (like before 12 weeks), if I had a full bladder it wasn't an issue.

I had also rented from heartones.com previously and believe they have the same dopplers maybe a little cheaper.

Shipping back to them is free, and as long as you notify them before your next charge, they will put the next month's charge on hold (assuming it would be coming up). With my first rental, I only had it about 2 weeks because I found out I m/c and they refunded the entire cost (that was the heartones one).

This is a good thread, because I'd actually like to rent one for the birth. I want NCB so I'd like a way to labor at home for as long as possible before I head to the hospital, but I want to make sure I'm not putting baby at risk while doing so. Do you ladies think a normal handheld doppler will work ok for monitoring between contractions?

I also rented from Baby Beat - it arrived in 3 days and I was able to get a HB at around 10 weeks. I thought I would only keep it around 1 month -- but I still have it and I'm 20 weeks along. It has given me the biggest peace of mind when I feel extra "crampy" or when I had spotting at 11 weeks -- I could check the HB rate and would feel so much more assured. I told DF it's the best investment I've made so far...

Had I taken more time to research - I probably would have purchased one...but like a previous poster mentioned...I didn't know which brand and type would work...and I knew the 3Mhz was what my doc uses...so I figured I'd rent one just to try it out.

Yup, it's what many midwives use. Some hospitals will do their intermittent monitoring this way, too.

Don't get bebesounds! It's only an amplifier you can't hear a thing! I got it as a gift and you can't hear anything at all. I got Angel sounds as well it was 45 shipped to Canada in less than a week. I love it, but since I feel him move I don't use it anymore.
