I'm working on my photography studio print packages and I was hoping for your opinions!!

Say you're going to get your portraits taken, either maternity, newborn or family ones taken by me....and you were going to buy prints....

What sizes/how many do you think you would buy/want out of the follow choices?

Sizes I'll be offering with different poses allowed
8 wallets
4x6
5x7
8x10
11x14
16x20

(I'll offer a small, medium and large print packages)

Thanks for any opinions!!!

Good timing! I was just going through all the proofs of my pictures and deciding what to order. Here's what I am doing for the newborn pictures:

1 11x14 (for us)
6 8x10s (four for us and one for each of the grandparents)
8 5x7s (four for us and others for aunts, uncles, etc.)
4x6s of all the proofs
2 sheets of 8 wallets

If the prices were reasonable, I would order a lot more though. So I'd definitely offer bigger packages. This is kind of the bare minimum that I want.

Great question. I have found that both times we have gotten picture packages, I have gotten too much--we have tons left over. I think I would want
8 wallets--1 sheet
4x6-4 copies
5x7--6 copies
8x10--2 copies
11x14--2 copies
16x20--1 copy

We're getting Allie's pictures done professionally for the first time on Sunday so I'll have a better idea after then, but I think Lauren hit the nail on the head IMO. The one we're going to seems rather expensive so if they were cheaper, I'd DEFINITELY buy more.
Will you also offer a cd (hi res and/or unretouched) as well? I think those are great to have for emailing purpose. The photog we're going to charges $700 for the hi res (a bit out of our budget!) & $275 for unedited.
He also offers photobooks.. spiral bound 20 pages for $175 & hard cover 10 page press print for $300.

THanks Melissa.. Yep I will be offering the CD and 4x6 proofs, holiday/birth announcement cards and leather photo books. (The CDs don't come cheap..$700 is pretty good, I know some that won't sell it for less than $1000, I'm still trying to decide on mine )

I'm going tonight to pick out our professional pics, so I'll have a better idea after that. I think I would probably lean toward something like what Courtney laid out.

IMO i'm not a "huge" picture person, the biggest i've ever gotten is an 11x14 of our wedding picture and its HUGE and i feel like i'm the center of attention on the wall and people are staring at me, lol. My favorite size is 5x7 because you can get a bunch of them and create a gallery on the walls or still put them on a table/mantle/shelf.

So i'de say something like

1-2 bigger then 8x10
1-2 8x10
4-6 5x7 (some for you, some for grandparents)

I probably wouldnt do much with 4x6's unless it was one of those collage frames or for a scrapbook, but for a scrapbook i would just get my own copies made most likely rather then order them from the photographer.

And 1 sheet of wallets, i dont even use wallet photos but know dh does and grandparents like them. IMO theres always tons of wallets left over

Just thought i would add my wedding photographer also does babies and this is what he offers

Package One: $399.99 plus tax
multiple outfits may be used
-includes two 8x10's, four 5x7's, ten 4x6's,
and 32 wallets
-online proof viewing
-folding folio containing eight 4x6 images
or a 20 page soft-back book
-CD of all images with reproduction rights

Package Two: $599.99 plus tax
multiple outfits may be used
-includes four 8x10's, four 5x7's, ten 4x6's,
and 48 wallets
-online proof viewing
-folding folio containing eight 4x6 images
or a 20 page soft-back book
-press printed hard-back book containing 20 images
-CD of all images with reproduction rights

Package Three: $879.99 plus tax
multiple outfits may be used
-includes four 8x10's, four 5x7's, ten 4x6's,
and 72 wallets, plus two 16x24 prints
-online proof viewing
-folding folio containing eight 4x6 images
or a 20 page soft-back book
-press printed hard-back book containing 40 images
