I don't know why i haven't thought about posting this sooner. My doctor told me i had a retroverted uterus at my last doctor appointment. (at least i think that's what it was). I had to ask DH because i forgot the name of it. I was researching today and read that the main symptoms are pain during intercourse and painful menstruation, both of which i've dealt with for a long time. The pain during intercourse is different now that i'm pregnant and it could be due to pregnancy at the moment, but i've been dealing with pain off and on for years. I've also always had really painful periods. Now i'm wondering if i finally know the reason.

Anyway, does anyone else have this or know anything about it? Will it affect my pregnancy or child birth at all?

I have a VERY retroverted uterus - every U/S they comment on it...
I have decently painful AFs, but Intercourse isn't usually painful...
Anyway...
Doc said it will mean that you might not hear baby as early on the doppler, you might not show as quickly as "normal", and eventually (b/t 16-20 weeks) it should straighten itself out...

I popped kinda late (am just now popping a bit), took forever to hear baby on doppler, and I think in the last week or so, my uterus is finally starting to straighten out, cause baby is usually only on the left hand side, but now he's more in the center...

Anyway...

Not much to worry about they tell me...

I also have a retroverted uterus and I never had painful periods until I went on BCP. I also don't have pain during intercourse.

But I been told what Tonya said.....that the baby may be farther back and you may not hear the hb as well and you may not show as much.

mine is retroverted as well. i popped pretty late for having twins. we were able to pick one up on the doppler around 13 w, but that was only because she was on top of the other. we couldn't get the second baby on the doppler until 17 w or so. my periods aren't really painful, but can be a little uncomfortable. i've never had an issue with sex.

I have a retroverted/tilted uterus as well...

I agree with what everyone else has said...it really doesn't affect the pregnancy, with the exception of how early you may show and how early the doppler might pick up the heartbeat (but my doc was still able to pick up baby's HB at 11w with a doppler)...

My periods have always been uncomfortable, but it really hasn't affected sex...

The only other thing to keep in mind for the future is that I heard sometimes with tilted uterus it can be difficult to use an IUD device like Mirena, but as long as they know where it's tilted towards, etc. then it should be fine...
