DH and I have decided not to tell anyone our name for our baby girl until she's born. We just don't want to hear what other people think about it, or have someone talk us out of it.

We've been thinking of Lilah Grace. It's a name I've had in my head for a long time, and that's what I've been calling her in my head for the last month!

My question is, we live in a small town, population around 17,000. Dh has a lot of family and one of his cousin's had a little girl last year and they named her Delila. Do you think Lilah is too close? They won't have the same last names or be in the same class, I just don't know...

First of all i love the name! And i love Grace as a middle name. Personally i don't think it's too close to the other name to not use. It's not the exact same. I say go for it!

I agree.....LOVE the name and its close, but not close enough. It would be one thing if you gave her the same name.

I LOVE that name! Very sweet and very classy. I wouldn't worry too much about it sounding similar to your DH's cousins kid's name, Lilah is a different name and sounds beautiful. Though I admit it makes me think of that character from General Hospital, Lilah Quartermaine - my mom used to watch when I was a kid and I always thought she was the most beautiful old woman I'd ever seen!

I love the name! I don't think it's too close at all. People definatley can be really rude with comments. I was almost tempted to do the same thing because I always get "that's different" with a wierd look. We chose the name Brevan for our lo. The name isn't very common so people automatically don't like it and feel they need to give us other suggestions. It's annoying!

Ditto everyone else. I really like the name and I don't see a problem using it. You are VERY wise to not tell anyone until the birth though, b/c it is almost guaranteed others would make a stink about it. A friend of ours (ex friend) tried to "claim" the name Jack before I got pregnant. Well guess what? We had our Jack first so we named him what we wanted to name him! And now she no longer talks to us. People are so weird with names. But once your daughter is here and already named, they can't say a thing!

I think its very cute. Dont feel bad, dh and I both have older brothers who have daughters and there names are Layah (like princess lay-uh) and Lailah (lay-luh) so yeah, talk about confussion LOL. Just for the record, my brothers daughter was born first. But we love them both and there names being so similar doesnt really bother us because they arent in the same place at the same time since they are two different sides of the family.

Thank you all so much. It's nice to hear that most of you don't think it's too big of a deal. And it's nice to know people like the name. I was wondering if it was too old fashioned. I used to watch General Hospital too, and that's where I first heard the name! lol

Love the name! I definately don't think it's too close. I am keeping our names from family and friends as well since people have a tendency to steal the names I plan on using. (My SIL has done this twice now). Anyway, congrats on picking a name.

I love the name and I don't think it's too close to the other name, either.

I just wanted to say, I totally agree with you on not telling people the name you have chosen. When I was pregnant, we made up fake baby names (Mable and Rambo) just as a joke to tell people when they asked.. we told them it was a joke, of course, and that we were choosing not to tell anyone. We said that whatever name we DO decide on, will sound better to our families than our "joke" names!

That's funny! Dh has been telling people we're naming her Juniper Berry. It's so funny to see people's look of shock, then they reign it in and tell us how beautiful it is! Of course we tell them we're joking.

I just think it will be a nice surprise for everyone and something for people to look forward to once she's born.
