I decided I should preface her birth story with the weeks leading up to it. First thing was at 30 weeks, I started having contractions and had to go to L&D to get a terbutiline shot to stop them. Thankfully that worked and I wasn't admitted. Startinga bout 34 weeks I would have consistent contractions but nothing that would amount to anything. Dr. said it was prodomal labor. At my 37 week appt (dr. didn't check me at 36 weeks b/c I'm a first time mom) she wasn't even going to check me, since she usually waits until 38 weeks. I asked her to anyway. I was 3cm and 80% effaced! She was shocked, I was shocked. I started getting weekly bio-physicals starting 36 weeks to check her because I had gestational diabetes. At 37 weeks, I had low fluid, but I passed. barely. She told me to go home and put my feet up and drink plenty of water, as this should help bring my fluid level back up.

On Wednesday, October 21st, I went to my normal 38 week bio-physical appt followed with my weekly doctor's appt. During the ultrasound, the tech said the I had really low amnioic fluid and she didn't pass. She tried it 5 times to get a better reading and just couldn't. I was supposed to have an hour wait between appts but I met with my doctor immediately afterwards where she said she was not comfortable with letting me go another day for fear that the baby could roll on her cord and become stillborn. Morbid, I know, but it was not a risk any of us were willing to take. So, off to the hospital I went! I left the doctor's office crying because the reality that the child I have felt kick and move in my belly for 9 months was going to be here today!!

I was in complete shock and scared out of my mind. I was NOT prepared to have my baby that day! I called DH, my mom and sister to all leave work and meet me at the hospital. Thank god i happened to have my bags in my trunk from the triage visit the Friday previous! Oh, I forgot to mention I was 4cm dilated when I left the dr. office and she swept my membranes to help things get going.

I was admitted into L&D and was starting regular contractions on my own by 2:30pm. They wanted to start me on pitocin and break my water but since I was already feeling strong contractions I asked for my epidural first (thank god i did!) The epi was a breeze! I was petrified to get it beforehand but it really was worth it. It took away all the contractions in my belly but I could feel the pressure though (which I'm happy for so I could push better).

At 4pm, the resident dr. came in and broke my water where she said I was 6cm dilated. I literally had no water coming out. 45 minutes later the nurse decided to check me becuase I was feeling some pressure. I was 9cm, so she emptied my bladder which put me to fully dilated and ready to push!!

I remember saying "what?! It's only 5:00!!" expected to labor at least 8 hours!! So, I started pushing and after just 35 minutes of really hard and concentrated work, Isabella Grace was born at 5:34pm! She weighed 5lbs 14oz and 20 inches long. Her apgar scores were 9/9, perfect!!

I'm still in shock that, for my first baby, I labored 3 hours and pushed for 30 minutes. The dr. said I had a few small tears and just a few stitches. Recovery is going well and I'm working on breastfeeding/pumping with Bella.

Because of my gestational diabetes, they were checking both of our sugars the whole visit. She was given some formula affter birth because they were so low. But, other than that, we are both in the clear for diabetes

6 months update:
I decided that since I slacked on keeping a journal the first few months, I'd wait and do a 6 month and then a one year update. So, Bella is doing fantastic!!! She started out weighing 5lbs 10oz when she came home from the hospital. Her first weight check was at 5 days old and she weighed 5lbs 13oz. One week later she weight 6lbs 3oz. She was doing great!! Breastfeeding wasn't though. She had a really hard time latching on and it was so stressful for us so I started exclusively pumping. Let me tell you, that was SOOO much work! I did it diligently for 4 weeks, but on one of my bad days, I made a hasty decision to quit, so I did. I look back now and wish I would have slept on that decision. But, I can't take it back now! She's thriving just great on formula

One Month:
She ate like a champ. So much so, that at her first month appt she weight 9lb 4oz we were shocked! She was almost 4 pounds heavier in one month! Even the dr. was shocked haha. Sleep was okay. She liked to get up every 3 hours around the clock to eat. I decided to feed on demand, and not introduce a schedule for feeding for a few more months. At 6 weeks we took the top part of her bassinet (its like a moses basket) off and put it in her crib. It was time to move her out! She would wake up with every little noise AND I would wake up from her! THis was the best thing the pedi could have said to do! She slept so much better.

Two Months:
Still pigging out She weighed 11lbs 9oz. She was also 23 inches! We flew through diaper and clothes sizes. She started out in preemies, and within 2 months she was almost out of her 0-3!

Three Months:
She started sleeping great! She slept 10p-5a and was such a good baby. Happy all the time, smiling away! Not sure of her weight this month since we didnt go back to the dr until her 4 month appt. It was time to move her out of her basinnet because we needed to give it to my sister. That was my crutch! We lived on that vibrate setting. I was worried how it would go. The first night was rough but then she was fine after that.

Four Months:
The wondeful "sleep regression" month. This was honestly THE worst month. I felt like I had a newborn all over again! Except add in teething to the mix. She started sleeping horribly. She would wake up every hour from 12am-6am. DH and I were exhausted. I was back to work part-time too. I was at the end of my rope and broke down to my sister from exhaustion. She was due to give birth to her second child in a few weeks but told me to take her "Nap Nanny" and try it. If you dont know what this is, google it It was a LIFESAVER! She started sleeping SO much better. Instead of every hour, she would only get up twice a night. I was in heaven So she slept in this bad boy until 5.5 months (I'll talk about it more in that month). She weighed 14lbs even and was 25.5 inches long. My girl was growing like a weed!! Close to tripling her birth weight in 4 months!!

Five months:
Teething sucks. There is no nice way to put it. She's drooling like a sieve, crying alot, jamming her fingers in her mouth, etc. I feel bad for my lil' monkey She lives on teething tablets right now. We had to stop using the nap nanny because she was waking up sideways on it haha! I was petrified to try her back in just her crib. If it ain't broke, don't fix it right? The first night she was none too happy, so we caved and put her back in it. But I tried again the next night and she's doing just fine! We put a wedge under her mattress so she sleeps on an incline. I forgot to mention she has silent reflux so she has to be on zantac at night too. So as of today ( 6 days shy of 6 months) she is going to sleep wonderfully between 8-8:30pm, wakes at midnight to snack, and at 5am to snack. We are going to work on cutting out the midnight feeding since she can technically sustain through the night this age. .

6 months:
This has been a fun month so far! She has been sleeping through the night a few times througout the month but otherwise she's just up once around 3am to either eat or just wants her binky. I can't complain. She's sitting up almost completely unassisted now and it's so cool to watch her hang out! For now, she sits on the floor with a boppy pillow around her since she likes to fall to the sides still. She likes to sit there for a really long time playing with toys or watching nick jr. I can't believe my baby is 6 months old (well, she's actually almost 7 months but still). She's been eating solids for over a month now and loves it! She gets 2-3 feedings a day. Her favorite foods are butternut squash and prunes. I just stepped it up to stage 2 foods so she can get more of a variety since they like to mix fruits and veggies together. She loves to belly laugh and smile all the time. My favorite time is when she's done her bath and had her last bottle, she sits in her bouncy for a few and just stares at me. When I smile at her she gives the BIGGEST smile (usually behind her binky) and laughs at me. I it! We just got back from her 6 month appt and she is 15lbs 14oz (25th %tile), 27 inches long (90th %tile) and head is 17.25 inches (75th %tile). She's doing great!

7 months:
She started sitting unassisted and is really enjoying being on the floor! She is teething like no other and I'm ready for those teeth to come through!! Her sleep hasn't been the best and she still gets up once or twice a night. She started daycare this month and it was rough for me! I cried hysterically the first day I dropped her off. I was much better the next day. I think I was so anxious about her first day I was overwhelmed. She loves daycare! She likes to play with the other kids (or watch them since she's not mobile yet) and likes her caregivers.

8 months:
This month was her baptism month! She had a shared baptism with her cousin, Sophia and it was fun but HOT! Normally in June it's only about 80 degrees but of course, on this particular day it was 100!! We about died but it was fun nonetheless. She was great during the ceremony. She smiled at the crowd and was such a ham.

9 months:
This was a big month for Bella! She got her two bottom teeth, started crawling, starting clapping and talking away! She also went on her first vacation to the beach and had a blast! She loves the sand and ate her fair share We had family pics done on the beach but I'm not a huge fan of them (I'll still post so you can see!) We have really been trying her on finger foods but she has such a gag reflux that she struggles. It's a work in progress! She had her 9 month appt this month is 19lbs and 29 inches long. Tall and skinny!

10 months:
She is such a mover! She doesn't like to snuggle anymore and that saddened me But, I do enjoy crawling around the house with her and she just laughs and laughs at us! She has been pulling herself up on her toys (and me) Her favorite foods are little pasta wheels and hot dogs. So, that's been her staples for lunch at daycare

11 months:
She has been cruising along furniture like crazy and has most recently started to stand on her own without knowning it (for about a minute or so). She loves to walk around the house with someone holding her hands or behind toys. Her hair has officially turned an auburn color. I swore she was going to be brown but nope, she definitely has a mix of both DH's and my hair. It's pretty! I can't believe a year has gone by! We will be celebrating her first birthday in 10 days! She still is not consistently STTN. I've just come to the realization that my child is not a sleeper. It's easier to handle when I can accept it. She has her first year dr. appt on 10/29 so I'm anxious to see her growth.

Here are some pics throughout her first year:

LOVE the update...and the new siggie...in it she looks a lot like you, but from what I remember, she has your DHs eyes!

I cant believe that she grew so fast...I still think of her as such a tiny tiny little thing! Will be googling Nap nanny soon../Kaiden has had some rough days lately himself...

One request...update with pics of each month
Need more pics of Bella!
