My dr. called me today and let me know that after speaking with my neurologist, she unfortunately had to defer to his recommendation of a medically necessary c/s. I am surprisingly okay with this! I really have come to peace with it and realize that if that's what it takes for a healthy momma and baby, it's totally worth it. I am, of course, disappointed that I won't get the delivery that I'd hoped for, but I am choosing to look at the positives, as I really don't have a choice at this point.

I realize it's almost 11 pm and I go to the dr. tomorrow morning at 10am, but if any c/s momma's are still on tonight, what are some important questions I should ask when we go to schedule tomorrow? I have a list but I'm sure I've missed something!

Thanks ladies

Honestly... the only thing we truely want is our babies to be ok, the birth is secondary right? I am glad you are at peace with this. Anywhoo... I don't have alot of suggestions as mine was totally unplanned. However, make sure you get colace (stool softner) and if they offer you a suppository... take it. The BM after delivery SUCKS, it took me 1 1/2 to painfully go and I know I wasn't the only one. GOOD LUCK!!!!

i hope you get a chance to see this before you go today, time difference meant that when you posted this it was 3am in the morning for me, lol
Im glad you are at peace, i wasnt and still not as mine was an emergency!

Anyway, I personally didnt have any issues having a BM although i was very worried I would but if you can get something to make it easier, do it!

Are you B/F? If so see how soon they can bring bubs to you, I was actually the first to hold Bella, we didnt think I would be, I thought DF would get her first. As soon as I was in recovery when they finished stitching me the m/w gave her straight to me for skin to skin and to b/f, in all honesty I hadnt even thought about it all with what I had been through, Im so greatful to her.

Um i cant think of anything to be honest but I know that I wanted to know things as they were happening, how long it would all take etc. Good luck, let us know how you get on

Ditto Toni on taking a stool softener. My first BM was more painful than getting up and walking after the c/s! I also think walking as soon as possible afterwards helps a ton. The sooner I got moving, the better it was in the long run. It will hurt like hell that first time, but it will get easier each time. If you are BF, I recommend holding him in the football hold. It's great for not putting any pressure on your incision because he will be to your side.

As for questions, you probably have some of these on your list. But I would ask:

-Will you be getting an epidural or a spinal?
-What kind of incision will be used?
-How will you be closed? (stitches, staples, durabond, etc.)
-Where will DH be during the surgery? Can he watch if he wants?
-Where will the baby be while you are in recovery? Can he be brought to you there?
-What pain meds are given after surgery?

That's all I can think of right now. Good luck with it! It really was no where near as bad as I expected. The recovery was actually okay! Make sure you have help around the house for the first couple of weeks. That really helps too.

You have a great list so far.

I recommend the stool softener as well as a precaution, but wanted to make sure you know it isn't always that bad. It took me longer to get to the bathroom than to have my first BM and it didn't hurt at all.

The only other thing I'd ask is when you should schedule it and who can be in the ORwith you. I had my DH and mom, but we had to ask the anesthesiologist about that.

I think the other ladies covered most of everything. I'm so glad you are at peace with this decision. It's not THAT bad after all. And I think it's so much better that it's planned rather than emergency so hopefully things will all go accordingly! I do second the stool softener...I didn't have any problems, but I took the stool softener with every pain med I took. I would bring some high waist underwear. I did end up wearing the mesh underwear in the hossy, but I felt sooo much better when I put on my own underwear. I second the football hold for BF...it works soooo well! Also, be prepared for after the section for them to push all over your SORE belly! It hurts soooooooo bad. Also, after the c section and they asked if I wanted DH to stay in the room with me while I got stitched up, well at the time I just wanted him to be with our baby, but in retrospect I SOOOOO wish he would have stayed with me....it was HORRIBLE but that could have been because of our traumatic situation...who knows. When will the section be scheduled?

Oh I know that's not what you wanted but the important thing is you and baby will be safe and that's all that matters. I have no advice on the c/s front but wish you all the luck in the world. I think because it is planned things will go smooth for you. I can't wait to find out the date. KUP.
