I think i read somewhere that you should chill your BM in the fridge before putting it in the freezer but I can't remember. Did I just make that up in my head or are you really not supposed to put it directly into the freezer? Just wondering because I am going back to work Thursday and didn't know if I should just keep it in the fridge/cooler pack or if I could go ahead and freeze it at work.

Not sure what those links tell you , but I never did. I would just fill a bag and freeze it and Paige never seemed to mind. GL going back to work. How do you feel about going back?

Not looking forward to it at all! LOL I work 12 hour shifts so the worst part is that she will probably be in bed by the time I get home.

The first few days are the hardest, but it will get easier! WOW 12 hour shifts? So how many times are you gonna be able to pump?

So sorry about having to go back to work
I know what you mean about 12 hour shifts. I'm not looking forward to that part either.

Hopefully at least 4, maybe 5. I can take breaks whenever as long as my patients are taken care of. I can always have someone cover me but basically I will go when I need to. Good thing I have good time management skills! The only thing that worries me is that we are soooo busy this year already with flu season that I may not get as many chances to get away but I will make time!

I just put mine in a bag and then in the freezer. If you don't have enough to put in the bag (different people do different amounts,) then you need to put all the milk you'll be combining in the fridge and not combine it until it's all the same temp. HTH!

I just had my BF class last night and I think I know what you're talking about.....I'll have to post later what exactly it says.....but I think it was if you're ADDING breast milk to previously frozen? Not that you have to first refrigerate freshly expressed BM before freezing. I saw it in the book they gave us but they didn't go through the book, so I'll quote it later.

I'm not experienced in this from my own perspective but work in the NICU with all the breast feeding mom's and our unit has done a lot of research on BM and what is the proper storage. They said that you can pump and place immediately into the freezer if you have it available, otherwise the fridge will do. They said if you have a long commute after work then it's especially important to freeze.

When I am at work, I keep my milk in the bottles in the fridge. For transport home, I have a cooler with ice packs, and then once I am home, I put it in bags in the freezer.

I didn't want to take the chance of freezing it while I was at work, and have it defrosting at all on my way home.
