In August we found out that my dad has kidney cancer and it had spread to the lungs. He was in the ICU on and off a respirator for most of August because of respiratory issues, before he was able to come home. He has been on meds to help shrink the masses on the lungs (they removed the kidney). He still wasn't doing that good though and was very sick on the meds, and his lungs filled with fluid.
Yesterday his oncologist switched his medications, so he got an IV treatment in the morning. He wasn't feeling well and napped most of the afternoon. When my mom woke him up about 4:30 he was having trouble breathing and couldn't stand or sit. My mom called 911.
Long story short, he had a stroke and was bleeding in the brain in 3 places and the brain is swollen. The bleeding isn't continual and they're trying to reduce the swelling, but I guess it can take weeks for the blood to reabsorb. They think the cancer is now in the brain (the CT scan wouldn't show much because of the bleeding), so the prognosis is not very good. He's also paralyzed on the right side. That MIGHT be able to get better if they reduce the swelling, but it's not promising. They're doing an MRI tomorrow to verify it's what they expect, and will begin chemo and radiation.
My sister is due on Wednesday and I'm due in 6 weeks. It kills me to think our kids won't know their grandfather. He's currently a little responsive, but he can't speak or anything. I know if he knew he was paralyzed he wouldn't want to live. Especially with what he already went through.
Unfortunately I had to cancel my maternity photos this morning (last night they said the next 12 hours were critical, so we weren't even sure he was going to make it). I probably won't be on too much in the next week or so, so I'll have lots of catching up to do! If you got through this whole post, bless you

I'm sorry  My dad died of cancer in Jan 08 so i know a lot of what you are feeling right now. It always helped me to remember that my dad would no longer be in pain if he was to pass on.

Wow...talk about a lot for a family to handle. You and your family will all be in thoughts and prayers. I'm so sorry to hear about this Christine...It breaks my heart.
