UPDATED
My DH talked to some Vice President at Learning Curves parent company - who after speaking with someone even higher up than herself told us that we can either pay to ship them back and get refunded OR we can just suck it up and deal.... Are you kidding me? What wonderful customer service
I don't know what to do now.. I'd be out like $40 to ship them both back
I ordered 2 True Fit Convertible Car Seats last week - they both came in the mail today..
Well, we take them out of the box to look at them - check the date it was manufactured and all that..
Well..
They were BOTH manufactured in February 2008 I ordered it directly from Learning Curve and they sent me almost 2 year old car seats!!!!
Then... my DH calls the company to complain and the first person we talk to basically said "O well, it'll be outgrown by height before it expires anyway- so it's no big deal".. so we talk to someone else - Who tells us that they have no control over which seats go out.. WTH do they still have almost 2 year old car seats out on the floor to begin with?
So they'll let us return them for "hopefully" newer seats.. BUT they want US to pay shipping to send them back!! HELL NO! I am NOT paying shipping for their screw up!
We left a message with a manager - so hopefully they call back and resolve this.. I'm so pissed off.

Yes - car seats have an expiration date.. it depends on which seat you get - but the True Fit is only good for 7 years.. so now it's only good for 5 years..
Here's the letter my DH wrote..
My wife and I purchased a "NEW" Learning Curve TrueFit Convertible Car Seat (2 of them) for our baby that we're expecting in January, 2010. We chose this brand due to their awesome reviews, high weight limit and tall shell, allow us to keep our little one as safe as possible for as long as possible. We received our order on 11/18/2009. Both Car Seats (Monet Color/Design). My wife, being the very informed and intelligent person that she is, told me upon opening them to check the manufacture date and expiration date. Manufactured 2/01/2008, Expiration Date 2/01/2015. This product sat in a warehouse for almost 2 YEARS before being sold? Suspicious. We paid full price for a product that had already spent 28% of its life on a shelf? Unacceptable.
So, I contacted The Learning Curve Staff @ 1700hrs EST to discuss my complaint with them. I explained that I found it unacceptable that they would sell me a 2 year old product, a product that is made specifically for infant and child safety. The first representative (male) I spoke to informed me that children often outgrow the seats within the first couple of years. I find this difficult to grasp, since I don't see too many 4 foot tall, 65lb 3 year old's running around the world. My cell phone then lost connection.
I called back, and spoke to another representative (female). I explained my situation again, and then she informed me that they don't guarantee the age of their product. She also told me that since there were no manufacturer defects, that I was only able to receive a refund. I then asked how the product would be getting back to them...and she simply replied with "You will incur the costs of the return shipping".I find it totally unacceptable that a company that makes its living off infant and child safety would sell a 2yr old product in the first place, but then be less than flexible when it comes to attempting to provide my child with the best possible safety restraint possible.A side note: The life of the product is 7 years. I was told they would out grow it within a couple of years. What happens when we have another child, and the car seat isn't expired yet? That isn't fair to the consumer. I paid full price for an product with 72% of its life left. Why didn't I pay 72% of the products total value before discounts? Upon bringing up these finer points, I was informed that was MY opinion, and not the opinion of Learning Curve.Well done, Learning Curve.
I either want this company to provide me with a NEW car seat, or I want a complete refund of the purchase price and I want the company to incur the shipping charges. I feel this is equitable seeing as they are selling products made for the safety of infants that are YEARS old.Thank you for your time and effort.

April, I commented on FB, but this is just reprehensible. I cannot believe a company that serves children would do that. I am so thankful you posted this, as we are purchasing a True Fit car seat this week. Definitely won't be ordering from Learning Curve, that's for sure!

WOW! what bad customer service!!
I had a TF in Monet, I bought it from a baby store and it was 02/01/2008 too! My first seat was actually faulty so I called learning curve and they sent me a replacement, it was 02/01/2008 also.
My only thoughts are that maybe because its the Monet cover and is less popular than the other designs?
I hope you get a decent reply! I do agree that you should not have paid full price for a product that is not "new"

UGH! I would have been really pissed too. So sorry April. The letter your DH wrote was really good. Hopefully they will respond to you really quick and get you a new one like you paid for. I'm going to go home and check mine now. I purchased a chicco cortina system and didn't even think to look at the date. Thanks for the heads up.

Some other people on my other board mentioned this as well.. I think they stopped production of it around then. BUT they should be advertising that.. and NOT selling them at full price I know when they were up on WOOT that it was mentioned that they would be older - it's nuts that the actual company wouldn't tell their customers though.
Still waiting for a call- some time of response back.

Yea they shouldn't be selling them at full price. I got one off woot for the deal and I don't mind since it was cheaper.

Just to keep ya'll updated:
My DH spoke to someone at Learning Curves parent company ( a vice president of something)... we're still waiting on a call back from her since she had to speak to someone higher up.. BUT she basically said - either pay to send it back or suck it up and deal.. WOW great customer service huh? So yeah.. I'd be out around $40 to send these stupid seats back just because I happen to want something newer than almost 2 years old
Hopefully this "higher up" person will give us better news.. I really can't believe their customer service - it's horrendous.

Wow, I'm going to have to look them up....BUT I won't buy from them after reading this.
You should let them know that you participate in mommy-to-be courses, birthing classes, etc....and that you plan to pass on your BAD experience to other expecting parents. (Sharing your experience is not slander)
I did this when Mitsubishi refused to honor their rebate promotion and about 6 weeks later they sent me an unexpected check.
