So I had my OB appt this morning - let me first start by saying that I left my house at 8am for a 9:30am appt - that should have been plenty of time - but alas traffic was way more insane than usual - like bumper to bumper Needless to say I got there 20 mins late. Thankfully my Doc agreed to still take me.
Good news first - Savannah's heartbeat was in the 150's - so she's doing perfectly My uterus is measuring spot on for 33 weeks (YAY! I've been measuring about 2 weeks ahead for the longest time).
OK now bad news...
I failed my three hour glucose test.. my fasting level was at 101 (they want it at 95) and my last draw was at 141 (they want it at 140).. You can fail one area and be fine but if you fail more than you you're diagnosed with gestational diabetes - so yah - I have GD by ONE point I have to go to this class next week to learn all about it - and start taking my sugar levels every day.
THEN - they're also saying that I have "chronic high blood pressure"... there reasoning for this is that I had ONE high reading before 20 weeks and ONE high reading after 20 weeks.. never mind that every other time my bp is completely normal and that last high reading was almost 10 weeks ago .
SO because of that and the GD I have to go twice weekly for NST's. It wouldn't be such a big deal if traffic and parking wasn't horrendous - but that 30 miles is guaranteed to take me at the bare minimum an hour each way (and that's with a little traffic - if traffic is bad it takes up to 2 hours). *sigh* I am so bummed about all of this.
The only good thing that happened today (minus Savannah being healthy of course) is that her furniture FINALLY came! We ordered it at the very beginning of September so this has been a long time coming.. I'll take pics soon - it looks so pretty in there now

I'm sorry April. That seems a little extreme about the "chronic high blood pressure".

I'm so sorry. Hopefully you can control the GD with diet alone. Please let me know if you have any questions. I ate really well and was able to control my GD without drugs. My blood sugars were super low. You won't have to cut out all carbs, but will need to figure out what you can tolerate. It may take you a while to do that.
Can you book the NST's during a time of day when the traffic isn't as bad?
I'm happy Savannah is doing well.

Glad to hear that savannah is healthy!!! It sucks when doctors take such small things and make it so much bigger, chronic high blood pressure?? That just seems extreme to me.

Oh no, April that really stinks. I'm sorry you had such a crappy appt but really glad to hear that your baby girl is doing great! What are NST's exactly? I've heard several people talk about it, but I don't really know what they are.

NST's are non stress tests - They hook you up to the monitoring machine for awhile to make sure everything is going OK with the baby (I think? someone correct me if I'm wrong).. I'll also be getting frequent ultrasounds to check on my fluid levels and everything
The blood pressure thing is what annoys me the most - once I had that one high reading and I had to have monitoring - I bought my own blood pressure monitor and have been keeping track of it - it's always normal. Whatever though..
Traffic is pretty horrible whenever you go - I have to drive on the Capital Beltway (highway that goes through DC)... I'm going to try to schedule them all for late morning/early afternoon though - that way it's not too terrible.
My first NST is on Friday - so I'll talk to them more then.. I'm hoping they'll give me my parking pass early (you get a pass for no hassle parking at 36 weeks - so it'd only be 3 weeks early) that way I won't have to worry about parking at least

Glad to hear Savannah is doing well! That really stinks about the GD and blood pressure. I hope you are able to manage the GD through diet and that you get your parking pass early.

Boo for GD and 'chronic hypertension.' (I've never heard of that one) I am glad that Savannah is doing so well and I'm sorry about all that seemingly unnecessary monitoring you will be put through. At least you will get to hear her hb more. I wish your doctor would have some second thoughts.

I'm sorry about the crappy appointment, but at least Savannah is healthy and they are trying to be on top of everything as much as possible (though the GD seems overkill to me too). Hopefully things will work out as far as the traffic and parking!

Sorry you had a bad appointment, but maybe they'll rethink it when they see how perfect everything is on Friday!
Hoping you get your parking pass, too!

April, you're right about NSTs. They will have a reading of the baby's heart rate from your session. Mine always had contractions monitored as well. They'll look at what Savannah's heart rate is doing. I think by now she should be having accelerations. I can't remember what they are called, but you'll see her heart accelerate for maybe 10 seconds and it could be 10 higher than you're used to. Or 20 seconds and it could be 20higher. You don't always catch that though, it'll just depend if she's doing it when you're hooked up. That's a good thing to have, so don't get worried if her rate is changing a bunch.

I'm soooooo sorry that you didn't have the best visit. I hope that most of those problems can be resolved or atleast not be such a hassle. I'm glad she is doing good though.
