I had a copper IUD before we started TTC - same shape as mirena with no hormones. Insertion and removal was pretty easy - just a little bit of cramping and spotting.
I'd personally avoid the copper ones in the future, because they cause HORRIBLE heavy periods and cramps... And I wouldn't get the Mirena for myself because I get nasty side effects from hormonal birth control.
We're just going to keep using no protection once baby is born, start trying for our 2nd (because we'll probably need Clomid to get PG again anyway), and then if we're done, DH is getting snipped
But if you don't react badly to hormonal BCP, I'd say its the best! Honestly if I didn't have such bad side effects, I'd do it myself after having the copper. Insertion is nothing - its like an extended pap, probably hurts less in fact. GL!
