So DH and I have only picked names so far for girls. (I looked up girls names, and haven't done boys names yet...I'm still thinking girl)

Anyway, I came across one name that is the same from someone here on JM, and I really like it. I mentioned it to DH, and it is in our top 4. I have already talked to this person, and she has said that it is not weird for me to use her name...but what do you guys think...is that just too weird "stealing" someones name? (Keep in mind, this is the persons name, not the name that they want to name their child)

Anyway, if the person who I talked to doesn't say who they are...that would be nice, as I want to keep it as a surprise, till we decide what to name the baby. I just wanted others opinions.

I think that you should name your baby what you want to name your baby... hey if that person already said that they didnt think it was weird then i say GO FOR IT!! i dont think its weird at all... heck there are soooooooooooooooo many Jessica's I have 2 SIL's named Jessica... now that sucks... but when you dont really know this person IRL or even if you did I think they would be flattered...

Unless you make the name up or put a bunch of random letters together, it's going to be SOMEone's name! It would hardly even cross my mind if it was a JM friends name to not use it. If it was my best friend (or close relative) that's another story!

I don't think it's weird at all. Eiley is the name of one my college roommate's friends. We loved the name. No one else really knows her so we didn't think it was odd to use it.

No that is not wierd......Stephanie is in my top 3 of names, but I would never really associate it with anyone on JM even though there are Stef's here!

I would just use the name if you like it. I don't think it's name stealing unless it i someone really close to you, like a sister or best friend. If you don't name your baby something because you know of someone with the same name, you probably would only end up with really strange names.

I don't know of anyone with the names we've chosen, but if we did - unless they were close family or friends, I wouldn't give it a second thought.

There just aren't many Natasha's or Derricks on JM, so we don't have to worry. LOL

But if there were, I wouldn't worry at all

Ok...I'm happy... I was worried, but am glad that it is ok. Now we just have to see if that is the name that we decide on.

I don't think it's weird at all.. especially if she said that it was fine!

Now what does annoy me (and is probably petty of me) is that another person in my DDC is using the same name as I am..

That would frustrate me as well probably!! That's what I made a specific note that it wasn't the baby name they wanted, but their name.

I don't think it's weird either. If it's a name that you and DH like then I think it's a name that you guys get to use!

I would get a little peeved if someone was stealing my baby name though! I'm not quite sure we will tell everyone our name or just surprise them... but of course I'll tell you girls!!!

I think it is quite a compliment to the person...

As far as DDC names, there is one other girl in my DDC who has decided on the same name that I did (different spelling though)...we saw that she had used it long after I had decided that it was the name that I wanted (though before I'd announced what his name would be)...didn't really bug me though, I mean, our kids live states apart, and will more than likely never meet - its just a message board, and hey, its a cute name...

I agree i wouldnt care either way if someone chose the same name as dh and i. Now of course our name is super common (Michael) but still... unless i actually made it up myself theres going to be someone else in the world with the same name anyway and its not like these babies will know each other!

I don't think it's weird at all especially if it's a common name. For the most part, we don't know each other IRL so I think it's especially *less* weird! When we decided on Alexandra, my aunt teased me a bit because my cousin's name is Alexander & they already use some of the possible nicknames so I felt a little funny but once Allie arrived, it wasn't strange at all!

The main reason it bothers me .. is that it's not a super common name and I had said since even before we found out it was a girl that her name would be Savannah... Then this other person announced when she was like 25ish weeks that she was naming her daughter Savannah as well.... like it's not totally obvious where she got the idea

Like I said though - it's probably petty of me.. but every time I see her use it I get annoyed all over again..
