So all went well at my appointment today. I am now a finger-tip dilated, Eli is still really low, and I'm not sure if I am more effaced (a few weeks ago I found out I was 50% effaced). The doctor said if Eli is not here by 41 weeks (his date is Dec. 28), then I will be brought in at night on the 27th to get things started and then induced on the 28th! I'm still really hoping I go on my own, I would like to have a natural birth, but it is great to know there is an end in sight! Also, Dec. 28th was my grandmother's birthday (she passed away almost 4 years ago) so if Eli is born on this day, his middle name will probably be changed to something to remember my grandmother.

Lynda that is great They won't induce me until 41 weeks 3 days, which happens to fall on new years eve, so they said they wouldn't do it until january 1, which seems waaaaayyyyy to long away!!! I did get my membranes sweeped on monday, but that hasn't seemed to work, lost some of my mucous plug and have been having some contractions but nothing regular!!!!

Isn't it nice to have an end in sight???

Yay for being so close. That would be neat to be for him to be born on the 28th, but I'm sure you are ready for him to come now.

All my lo needed was an induction date, once it was set he came on his own! I hope the same happens for you, although I know how nice it is to at least have an end in sight!!

I'm so excited to know that in two weeks my little Eli will be here!

Megan, that stinks that you have to wait so long... I hope that your little girl comes before you would need to get induced!

Karen, I am so ready!

Jodi, that is exactly what I am hoping for! I think that t
he closer I get to being induced, the more likely my body will just kick things into gear

I have a feeling you will go on your own. Sometimes it just takes setting an induction date for them to decide to come out! Either way, he will be here SOO soon!!

How come they only give you to 41 weeks? I mean, obviously I know everyone wants baby out before then, but I was curious why that date is set in stone...

Hooray for a date! Hopefully he'll come out on his own now

Rachel - I've always been curious about that myself. From what I've read, past 41 weeks the skull bones begin to harden and it can make it difficult for the baby to pass through the birth canal. Although I do wonder why it is 41 weeks there, it isn't uncommon for women to get to 42 weeks before they get induced here, and usually around 42.5 weeks if they still haven't gone into full labour, they get a c-section.

The more I read in the hospital literature, the more I realize, Canada and the US are very different!

He gave me the option of getting induced... there was no pressure, but I decided to take it... aside from my extreme discomfort and frustration at this point, I believe he will be away during that week and I really do want him to deliver Eli (as opposed to the other doctors in the practice, although I do like them as well).

I really do think he will come on his own... Plus, DH and I have been going over middle names that begin with F (for my grandmother) and the options are not looking good (Frank and Fredrick are out... the rest are a bit scary, especially with his first and last name)! DH told him that if he is not out before my induction date, his middle name will be Froboytow! LOL.

Wow, I pretty much wrote your post 9 months ago! I totally remember saying it was good to have a definite end in sight. I know at this point it's so hard to wait it out especially if you're uncomfortable. I hope the time goes by quickly for you!! I've got my cell phone at the ready
