Aaron, unfortunatly, nothing can be done to improve, its a result of dh's chromosome translocation.

I'm so sorry yet so happy that you got some much needed answers. So do the docs say that this will happen every time? Or will you be able to conceive again and carry full term? Is there anything they can do? I'm so glad you are feeling at peace with this. I can't imagine what you are going through. Many many many

I'm so glad you were able to get answers and are able to name your little girl. I can't wait to hear what you name her. I know it must be bitter sweet for you right now to have the results.

I always find that life is easier to handle with knowledge. . . even though I've never been through anything this terrible.

I don't understand the chromosome imbalance thing or the translocation without it being a syndrome. I'm sorry if I'm prying, Erika. My heart goes out to you, I think that there must be some measure of peace in being able to name your daughter.

What my husband has is called a balanced translocation, you can google it if you want to know more about it because its alot to explain. I may someday be able to carry a healthy baby to term, people with a balanced translocation can, were not sure why we have lost so many and not had a healthy one in between at all, because everyone else in dh's family that has it has had a healthy baby, some had losses, some had NONE but they all had babies- although nobody has had as many losses as we have, nevermind having them all in a row, but we know that God has a plan for us. As far as IVF/PGD, this is an option for us, but we are not to that point yet to move ahead with it.

Courtney, your not prying, I assumed you all would have questions and thats ok

Thanks for the info, Erika. I'm definitely off to do some research. You remain in my prayers, my dear. I believe you WILL be a mother, and that child will be ever-so-lucky.

Would it be possible to do a semen analysis on a small part of a sample to see what % of the sperm are affected? I have no idea if that's possible or if it would be reliable.

Do all the sperm carry the translocation if they are not missing or do not have an extra chromosomes?

Its all so involved and complicated that while I understand most of it, even I am confused and dont know all the answers. I dont believe all the sperm are affected by it because people with the translocation CAN have healthy babies, some who dont even get the balanced translocation passed on to them, and some that do but are BALANCED just like my dh where he is a carrier of it, but is perfectly normal and healthy both physically and mentally- his only issue is when it comes to having babies. Then on the other hand, we can have a baby carried to term who is a carrier of an unbalanced translocation who would be mentally retarded (I hate that term, it sounds so aweful!), or carry a baby who is unbalanced and miscarry (which has been the case so far)....so basically I guess you can say its a 25% chance each time we get pg to have a healthy non carrier...or a 50% chance to have a healthy baby, carrier or not/ 50% chance of an unhealthy baby. WOW, I think I just confused myself LOL

That makes sense, or some version of it. I had way too many genetics classes in college, but that was a long long time ago. Thank you for answering my prying questions. I hope this girl is your last angel and that Matthew and you have the baby you deserve very soon.
