Ok so I'm starting to freaking out. I'm already 17 weeks tomorrow and I'm just now starting to try and find a daycare. It's 150 a week here. Is that normal? If so what does everyone else do? I don't need childcare full time but there's not a part time option. AGGGGHHHH what to do>

Since you have the university there, I would look into putting an ad in the local UT paper.

Here (Texas A&M) there is a student website where employers, public and private, can post jobs. I would call the university and see if they have anything like that....the career center or something.

We may utilize our friends daughter who is coming to TAMU in the Fall...ironically, she lives in your city right now...but we may offer her a salary with paid holidays for parttime babysitting.

Oh, and I would say that price is fair. I worked in a daycare in 1998 and for an infant it was $120/week, so 10 years down the road I can see that being about right.

Day care is ridiculous here, that's one of the reasons I quit working.

You can try looking for an in home day care. They may be cheaper and more flexible with hours. If it's like around here, you'll still have to pay when your child is sick or when the in home person is gone for vacation.

Dh and his ex paid 30 dollars a day for my step daughter when she went full time.... at the time the babysitter gave them a bit of a discount because she was a friend of the family... she charged others more.

I will say this. I work in a preschool with day care hours and the infant room starts at $265 a week so 150 sounds cheap to me. However LeeAnn's idea sounds really good, you can easily find a college student with free time to work around your p/t schedule.

LeeAnn thank you for that info. I think that I will look into that. I'm still trying to convince my retired mother in law to do it but nothing is for sure yet and I need to be acting like it's not going to happen just in case she changes her mind. Thank you everyone. I guess I was under the impression that it was around 100 a week. I will take any advice that I can get.

Definitely depends on location, my aunt pays $250/week here! I couldn't even imagine. I hope you're able to find something, I can't offer any good advice. If TX wasn't too hot for DH, I'd love to move there

Around here the average for an infant is 270 a week We are trying to fill in the time I will be back teaching until summer (about 2 months) with family. I agree that looking into home daycare isn't a bad option!!

I just signed Brevan up this week. They are charging $38/day. We only need 3 days so that will be $114 week for us. My work is letting me work 2 days from home thankfully. The $150.00 per week sounds really reasonable.
