Ahhh ladies I need your help! We have tried 3 times (unsuccessfully) to give the baby a bottle of bm. DH tried both times, we made sure that he wasn't starving but still hungry and all he does it fuss and end up crying after a few minutes. I end up having to nurse him each time. We have tried the gerber nuk and plaxtex nurser bottles. He will be 5 weeks tomorrow, but we starting trying last week at 4 weeks.

Any suggestions for types of bottles your lo likes? I know each baby is different but we don't want to have to buy a million bottles until we find one that works! Any hints or tips would be appreciated!!

Cherie uses the Playtex ones, so I'm no help there, but are you there when your DH tries giving the bottle? Sometimes it helps to leave the house. That's what I had to do. Good luck!

We use Medela mostly (he likes those the best) but also does fine with Playtex drop ins or ventaire. Granted- he only breastfeeds about once per day and is mostly bottle fed EBM and has been since very early on so he's probably more used to it... but I have heard many ladies say they had to be no where around you or your smell or they wouldn't take the bottle. Good luck girl!

I second the Playtex drop ins. That's what we used at first and she seemed to take to it quite well. We then switched to Dr. Brown's and I love those bottles. It's so hard, but maybe just go buy a few different kinds and see how he takes to them. We would go back and forth where she would fuss and fuss and not BF then go back and forth when she would fuss and fuss and NOT take a bottle. It was so frustrating, but I had to stick with the bottles because I was going back to work. Hope you find something hun, I know how furstrating it can be.

We use Nuk with the slow flow nipples. And I made sure I was away when DH fed her. It took a little bit, but those have worked well for us.

We used the breastflow from about week 2 on and they did great with them until around 3 months when both decided the same night that they weren't taking a bottle any longer. They would then take NUK bottles periodically and shortly put an end to that. We can now get them to drink from a sippy cup if I'm gone long enough.

When I nannied, the baby took BM from Dr. Brown's only. It worked out really well and she used those from 4 weeks to one year. I really liked them.

Thanks for your input ladies. We have tried 2 more times; once with a Dr. Brown's (which he didn't take) and again with the nuk and he took about 1/2 an ounce. So hopefully he will get better. I actually picked up a preemie nipple for the dr browns since it seemed to be coming too quick for him, we'll see if that helps.

I went out and tried to find the breastflow by first years and couldn't! I checked walmart, target, and babies r us. Those that use them, where did you get them?

We use the Playtex ventair with the wide nipple. Haylea is almost 5 mo and still uses slow flow. It has worked well but I have heard really good things about the breast flow ones as well. They have them online at BRU The First Years BPA Free 3Pk Breastflow Bottle - 5 oz. - Learning Curve - Babies "R" Us

I just read that Dr. Brown's preemie nipples are slower than slow flow.

But for some reason I know at the hospital the red preemie nipples they used with Kylar were super fast so he didn't have to work hard and burn too many calories trying to drink his milk.

It's confusing but good luck finding the right one!!

I could only find the breastflow bottles at babies r us or online. At my babies r us they are not on the same wall as the rest of the bottles but were over where the breast pumps were. Did you try asking someone in the store? Maybe your store has them somewhere different too.

We are going through the same thing right now with Ashlynn. She does better with First Years Breastflow bottles which seems to be the closest thing to a real boob by the way she latches onto it. It's still slow going and we have the slowest flow nipples and she still chokes a little on the BM and gets frustrated so she is 98% Breastfed for now.

I am going to keep working with her every day by trying to give her a bottle at least once a day until she starts to pick up on it a little better so I can go out a little more. DH is deployed overseas right now so it's all me to teach her to use a bottle. I'm sure she will eventually pick it up but until then, I don't mind not being able to be gone long when I go out and about with friends etc. I never go further than 15-20min from the house so I can get back quickly if she gets fussy when my parents are watching her.

It not so great though because my friends birthday is next weekend and I 'd like to go to the party but I know I won't be able to stay very long because I'll need to get back to Ashlynn when she wakes up hungry. She is so worth it and I love the bond we have from BF'ing.
