Hello folks! I havent updated in a few days so i thought i would just update you guys on everything thats going on.
First off, i had my two week checkup and all is well with me. My incision is healing up nice and physically i'm fine. Since my doctor (well, midwife but whatever) didnt deliver my dh and i were telling her everything and she said that at my first U/S at 6 weeks (when i was spotting) the tech actually had written "possible bicornuate uterus" but that they see that very often so they didnt really think i actually had one. I dont know if should be upset that they didnt investigate it further especially since i had already had the m/c two months before that but... really no sense in dwelling about "what ifs" now so oh well i guess. I also discovered doc used to be a NICU nurse at the local hospital (where i would have delivered if he was born after 28 weeks) and she says they are excellent there and everything so we should be completely comfortable transfering him there when he's ready. Dh and i are really wanting to transfer him so he's only 20 minutes from home as soon as he's ready so this was really reassuring for us. You can tell the doc feels really bad that she missed my "issue" and for some reason that was comforting to me... i mean, i wish she had found it with my u/s's but its very common for it to be missed and not detected until the person is actually open for a c section so i dont blame her. Oh and apparently i did have GD also (i had done my 1 hour sugar test the morning my water broke)... i guess she even said my numbers were so high they would still done the three hour but also would have had me see the GD doctor right away. So, just another thing to look out for next pregnancy i guess
As for Michael, he's doing pretty good. They discovered the other day his PDA in his heart actually opened back up (it was closing at first) so, tomorrow he has a echocardiogram and if its still the same or larger they'll try medication to close it, and if that doesnt work they might need to do a small surgery procedure. Obviously i'm nervous about a "surgery" but everyone is saying that its really not that big of a deal and its just a small cut in his back and actually a very quick and safe procedure. We'll see tomorrow what the cardiologist says. Other then that he's just plugging along. Still has a few Bradys here or there and still working on his breathing (he's breathing on his own, still using the CPAP) but all in all he's progressing pretty normally.
And saving the best for last.... I got to hold him for the first time today!!! It really makes you realize how tiny he is when you hold him... i can't wait to see dh do it because he's huge! Lol.
Heres a few pics...

Thanks for the update! I'm glad things are going pretty well. I have to ask because I don't know anything about this topic...if they would have investigated and found that you had a bicornate uterus, would they have done anything differently? And could they have prevented your water from breaking and his early delivery?

You know, i'm not entirely sure. I know that like i said most of the time its not discovered until the woman is opened up for a c section, which most people with this have to have because this often causes the baby to be breech (which Mikey was). So for this pregnancy i dont know, but i think in the future there are things they can do to help me stay pregnant longer. A of people that i tell about this say "oh such and such has that and they had a full term baby" so it is possible, someone at dh's work knows someone with one and she was on bed rest the whole time but i dont know if thats common. Like i said i see a midwife so she obviously isnt well versed in this stuff as well as a fertility doctor (who i'll see at some point before we TTC again) but she thinks there could be procedures that could help with the divide of the uterus, and i THINK (the way i understand it), if i get pregnant again and the egg implants low enough that it would have enough space to grow. I'm wondering if i get pregnant again and it implants high in one of the "humps" if perhaps they would want me to abort or something... but thats just speculation on my end

Oh wow he's so itty bitty and cute!! I forgot what it was like to have Siera in the NICU. I'm glad to hear he's doing so well! I hope his echo shows that the PDA is closing. Siera has an ASD, PDA and a bicuspid aortic valve and we have a check up in March to see how everything looks.

Im glad your update is good. SOOO glad to hear your little man is just chugging along, but please KUP on what they say today. You know we're all still thinking and praying for you, girl!
Im sorry to hear that they COULD have prevented this, but like you said...whats the point of dwelling on the 'what ifs'. Its nice to hear the DR is sympathetic and feels bad, I get what you mean on that. At least you have learned some things to know for your next pregnancy.
Thanks for the update! And I am just so thrilled you were finally able to hold your baby boy!! I know you are on cloud 9!

Thanks all!
Doc just called, they decided to try the meds first and they'll be over a course of three days. The medicine could make him sick though, so if there is any signs of that they'll stop it and go to surgery right away (they said they obviously want to try the least invasive course of action first). So of course dh and i will be on edge for the next three days but hopefully he'll handle the meds fine.
They also tried to put him on the nasal cannula last night because his nose is big enough now but he was being stubborn and throwing fits (ie, letting his breathing go to low etc) i guess thats the preemie version of throwing fits but anyway i guess they'll try that again later... he obviously has to get over nto liking it since its the next step for him! I guess they'll maybe try again after the pDA stuff is resolved because if he needs surgery he'll end up on a vent anyway because of the sedation, no pointi n getting him used to the nasal cannula when he'll have to go on a vent then back to cpap and all that again to step back down.

I am so glad that you got to hold him! That must have been the most wonderful feeling. I'm glad he is progressing and hope you are able to transfer him soon so you can be closer.
