So I had my 28 week appt today and it just seemed like all bad news! I'm really bummed! First, I failed my 1 hour GTT. They wanted under 136 and I was at 151. Boo! I know alot of people fail the one hour and do fine on the 3 hour but still, just having to take the 3 hour SUCKS!!!! I just had a feeling I would fail this test. And the sucky thing is that I have hardly eaten ANY sugar this pregnancy! The baby does not like it so I've been really good at hardly eating any sweets! How can I possibly have GD?! Ugh! Next, I am anemic. So now I have to take the iron pills daily. Not a huge deal, but still I'd rather not deal with chronic constipation. I mean I only go 2-3 times a week as it is. I definitely don't need anything adding to that. Also I'm measuring big (which she said could be the way the baby is laying, she is seriously waaaayyyy up on the top of my stomach!) Literally the dr lifted up my shirt and was like "Oh my gosh she's got limbs sticking out everywhere!" You could see her butt poked out on one side of my belly and her feet poked out on the other! So now I'm going for a sizing ultrasound on the 17th. I'm glad to see her again, but I'm so scared of having a big baby! I mean I am petite as it is. I'm just afraid they are going to say "baby's too big, yada yada" and force me into a C-Section! The good news is that my BP and urine are good as usual and I've gained another 4lbs. So I'm gaining exactly where I should be. It just seems so crazy the baby could be big and I'm not gaining tons of weight, ya know?! I gained 4lbs in the first 4 months (l lb at each appt) 6 lbs at month 5, 4 lbs at month 6 and 4 lbs at month 7. So I've gained 18 lbs total. So even if I still gain a lb a week from here on out will put me at the 30lb mark. Also for the past week I've been getting nausea and diarrhea with every meal, so my dr thinks I'm coming down with a stomach bug! I thought it was just because the baby is squished into my stomach, but the dr said that wasn't normal. Okay, enough woe is me, just really disappointed by all of today's news.

Sorry for a not so good news appointment although I did laugh my butt off about the limbs sticking out everywhere....I don't know why I find that hilarious!

Sorry for such a not so great appointment!!! I don't know if the reciepe I posted would work the the GD, but I posted a chocolate cupcake bran reciepe, that is a good way to get a lot of fiber, without tasting like fiber. (I also am anemic, and have to take iron supplements)

unfortunately, GD really has nothing to do with the amount of sugar content you eat during pregnancy. It's about the hormone that your body produces that affects your insulin level.
Hoepfully you'll pass your 3 hr but if not, sounds like your number wasn't too high and you could control by diet and exercise (my 1 hr was 178).
You'll probably get more ultrasounds if you get diagnosed with GD (usually biophysicals start around 32 weeks). I think it's a nice perk of having GD
Best of luck and I'll cross my fingers you pass your 3 hour!

Im sorry you had not such a great appt! I dont understand how your GD levels could be elevated when you don't eat sweets!? It is amazing you are gaining at the proper rate, but the baby is still measuring big? Hmmm....maybe she's just long and when she is stretch out she looks larger? KUP on how everything goes!!!

Sorry for a bad appointment, but don't blame yourself on your sugars, it's nothing you've done! I would also take what they say about the babies size with a grain of salt, as those ultrasounds can be off by 1lb OR MORE. If you do have GD, if it's well controlled, you shouldn't have to worry about a big baby. I hope you pass the 3 hour!

Sorry about your appt. Good luck with the 3 hour test! I also had to take iron supplements when I was pg. I was prescribed Ferrelet & I had no problems. I know a lot of girls in my ddc complained about nausea & constipation but I took mine right before bed & never had any averse reactions.
Good luck & I hope your next appt brings better news!

I'm sorry you had a crummy appointment! Hopefully you'll have no problem passing the 3 hour test. I had my 28 week appt yesterday and was told i was measuring ahead too (which really kinda surprised me because i'm always being told how small i am) but my doctor didn't seem at all concerned. So i wouldn't worry too much about it if i were you. Good luck hun!

I'm sorry about the appointment, hope that the 3 hour goes well...either way, at least you know that if you go on the GD diet plan, it shouldn't be too hard since you aren't giving in to the sweets anyway...
Hope baby is doing well!

Sorry you were having a crummy day! I hope to hear that you passed your 3Hr.
Lyz is right though - it's not about the amount of sweets that you consume...
Hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you had such a bad appointment Carla. I'm really sorry about the glucose test. I really hope you pass the 3 hour. Like the other girls said, it's about how the body produces insulin to break down glucose in the body not about how many sweets you have consumed. I really hope you hear good news at your next appointment. Congrats on getting your house back by the way!

Thanks ladies! I was just so shocked to have a "bad appt" because everything seemed to be sailing so smoothly! I think I've had the easiest pregnancy ever so I guess there had to be some bumps in the road! I have 3 different samples of the iron to try so hopefully one of those works without too many side effects. I did take one yesterday and I felt awful all day, although I don't know if its because of the iron or the fact that my dr thinks I'm coming down with a stomach bug. But I was nauseous, had diarrhea still and just felt generally run down all day. I'm off today so hopefully whatever it is just passes. I'll take the iron before bed tonight and see if that helps.
Those of you with GD, did you end up having big babies or needing a C-Section due to the GD? That's really my biggest fear, that they will try to push the whole baby is too big you have to have a C-section thing on me. I would be okay with one if I REALLY needed it to protect me and baby, but too big just doesn't seem like a very valid excuse to me, especially since its all guesswork and they don't technically know how big the baby actually is. I had a 90 lb (pre-pg) short, petite friend push out a 10 lber with no problem so I know it can be done! (of course ask me in labor if I still want too! )
Getting more ultrasounds does sound like a nice perk to having GD, so I guess I just need to focus on the silver lining aspect! Well first take the next test and see if I even have it to begin with! Like I told my coworker yesterday it could always be worse! We had a crazy busy rough day, but hey at least we don't have to scoop up roadkill off the side of the road in 100 degree weather! She calls me Chicken Soup Carla because I always seem to pull that crap out on her when she's complaining! I'm usually annoyingly optimistic so I just need to apply that here too!
Krista, I keep getting told how small I am for how far along I am too. I think she is just literally using every ounce of space she has in there! I see her limbs sticking out all the time! It is funny to see! My belly will look all lumpy and ackwardly shaped, but its just her butt sticking out at us! But my mom said the same about me, that I was always poking out and I was a 4 lber so maybe there is hope after all. I mean I am petite with a short torso, so maybe that's why I measure differently. I won't worry too much about it.

Carla, I definately understand your fears of C-sect due to GD. I talked to my doctor about everything yesterday actually. He was very optimistic and said that as long as I keep my blood sugars under control everything should be just fine. We get our growth scan in 2 weeks and I am praying that this baby's weight is normal so I won't have to worry. My doctor said most complications are from the people who do not keep their blood sugars under control. It sounds like you have been eating healthy so hopefully it won't be hard for you. You have a great shot of not even having GD so I'll be praying for you!

My doc says these days they don't do c-sections on moms who have GD just because they have GD. My sister had it bad (was on insulin shots) and delivered at 39w4d a 6.9lb baby girl. I delivered 38w3d and Bella was 5.14lb. Just because you have GD doesn't mean you'll have a big baby. Now, having said that, you could still have a big baby but just because you were meant to have a big baby!! If your dr tries to push a c-section on you, Iwould question that (unless they say at 37 weeks you have a 9lb baby or something like that).
Try not to focus on that and just focus on controlling it (if you have it!) I'm a very optomistic person so I always try to show the brighter side of things (I have a debbie downer friend and she always laughs at me when I do that...can't help it!)
everything will be okay

I don't have GD but dr was really watching for it because I am overweight and supposedly u have a higher chance of getting it if u are overweight. As long as u take care of urself and don't ignore it and the dr keeps a close eye on it u should be ok. She told me they usually do C sections on the people who were either not diagnosed until much later or that just ate and did what they wanted(yea there are people that are insane I mean u would do anything to make sure ur baby is ok) oh and she said as long as u don't gain a ton of weight u should also be ok but it sounds like it wasn't too bad in the 1 hr test so hopping u pass the 3 hr
