I did not have any tums in the house, and tonight is the first time I have experienced heart burn. And I tried to just drink water and milk, and neither worked...so I had a rolaid. It is the only thing I had, and it is now 1:15 am...the burning seems to have stopped, but now I am worried about the rolaid, because i read in a couple of places that I should not take them. I just took one, but the burning was keeping me from sleeping. anyone take rolaids during their pregnancies.
I have never heard that about rolaids. I have to keep lots of tums on hand. The only things I can think of are what you already tried. Milk and water...
I bought the costco size tums because the heartburn was awful. I used up almost 2 of those bottles while pregnant. I never had heartburn before that either.
You can't take back the Rolaid now so try to stop worrying about it. One really shouldn't hurt. But, go and stock up on some tums now so you have them in the house when you need them. My heartburn was the worst during the middle of the night so I always tried to have stock on hand so I didn't have to go and buy some at that hour!

I have heard that about rolaids but I agree, you can't take it back now. I'm sure one wouldn't hurt. I would use an extra pillow at night to be elevated, buy some tums and drink milk. When you lay down it allows the acid to shift more so being elevated keeps it down better. Think of liquid in a glass as it sits upright compared to being laid down.

I just wanted to stop in and say that when you have heartburn.... don't drink milk! It might make it feel better at first... but it makes it worse! It causes your stomach to produce more acid!
Marci, don't worry! My GF took rolaids through her whole pregnancy because they were the only ones that worked, and she was fine, and so was her little boy!
My doc recommended I take Gaviscon for heartburn, btw - 1, because it is safe, and 2, because it is the ONLY antacid that works while you're laying down!
Go for the gaviscon!
