Did/Are you start buying them early? Do you wish you had if you didn't?
I am thinking this is one thing you can definitely spread the expense out for. If I buy a box every time or every other time i go shopping I will have a lot and the 20 i spend each time won't hurt too bad. Not going to start yet but definitely want to start by at least half way through.

I havent done this because a) different kinds "work" for different babies so i didnt want to deal with having a ton of things my kid might be allergic too or something and b) i didnt want to end up with alot of sizes i wouldnt be using
Instead someone suggested to me taking that 20 of 30 dollars a month and putting it into a savings account and having a fund to just buy out of when its born.
I did however stock up on wipes here or there and i think i'll be glad that i did that.

I heard (from the ladies on here) good things about Pampers Swaddlers (it's also what most hospitals give out). So- I put them on my registry and got tons!
In fact- My LO is almost 4 months old and I've yet to buy 1 package of diapers. I even had to donate some size 1's because he outgrew them before we got to use them. I think it's fine to buy diapers if you really want to but I may wait to see what you get at showers. But if you do buy diapers just make sure you spread out the sizes and don't buy too many of the same size. They fly through newborn and size 1's (at least in my experience)! HTH!

You should be able to exchange sizes if you buy too many of one size.
I think it's a good idea to either stock up or put the cash away for them.
We are going cloth - so we have a diaper service all lined up and ready to go.

I haven't bought any yet. I put some pampers swaddlers on my registry because of all the great things i've heard.

Yeah- you can exchange unopened boxes I believe. Unforunately, we got 1/4 of the way through the box before he outgrew them.

I have heard great things about swaddlers as well...it is what my BF suggests. From what i have heard kids stay in 2s & 4s the longest. We'll see. Saving the money is a good idea! Sam wipes is a great idea too...i know my BF told me recently she is just now using her last bottle of shampoo she got as a gift from her first baby born almost 2 years ago!!

We are still trying to decide between cloth or disposable...we will probably end up buying some samples of the cloth and trying disposable as well, to see what works best/doesn't leak/if I have time to wash the cloth...then just buying them as needed.
I have been stocking up on white onesies in various sizes as well as receiving blankets...the clothing overwhelms me though, so she will be in onesies until I have it figured out.

Kate, you could do what DH and I are doing - we're having a BBQ for DH (like his male baby shower) and its going to be a diaper shower. Everyone who comes to the BBQ is asked to bring diapers and/or wipes (preferably diapers AND, but I can't be greedy LOL)
That way we'll get a few different sizes and lots of different brands, and can find what works for us. We're also setting aside money every month for diapers, because it is going to be a big expense... Especially with mommy liking the Huggies Pure & Natural... I have expensive taste in EVERYTHING gawd I hate it LOL
GL Kate! I personally wouldn't buy too many diapers, after seeing my sister go through 5 different brands only to settle on - believe it or not - Parent's Choice by Walmart, the only ones that worked for her baby boy, I'd set aside the money instead just in case you can't return the ones you buy now

Ive been buying diapers since the day I found out I was preggo.. i been spreading them out from size 2-4 so many bags of each. I rather have to buy a bag here and there then have to many.. I also been buying the jumbo boxes of wipes. I am hoping it helps when the baby comes. I am planning on Breastfeeding so It wont be hell of a expense when the baby comes on a lower-based income. HTH!!
Every baby is different though, some brands work for some babies, and others don't so Im hoping I picked the right brand or else I have LOTS of baby shower gifts coming up...lol!

What we decided on doing getting a Walmart gift card and putting $25 on it each time we got into Walmart. It's working out fantastic! Of course it doesn't have to be Walmart but that's our store of choice. We heard so many good and bad things about each diaper type we figured we'll just buy one box at first and see how it works out and go from there.

I've been buying diapers since about January.....mainly because I got a bunch of coupons from registering at sites and they expire. I've been around babies my whole life and personally, I liked Luvs the best.....but I've never seen a brand I outright hated. Unfortunately, Huggies has been sending me the most coupons...so they have been the brand of choice because I'm getting $2-3 off per bag.
Of course, when I go to Sam's I do get a big ol' box of Huggies because there are 50 more in the box for the same price as Pampers. The bulk boxes are size 1-2 and go by pounds (they are not Size 1, Size 2....they are size 1-2).
Right now, this is what I have:
2 bulk Huggie boxes
1 jumbo pack Huggies Pure & Natural
2 jumbo packs of Pampers swaddlers
1 jumbo pack of Huggies snugglers
1 jumbo pack of Luvs
Unless my baby is allergic to the diapers, I will use what I buy or are given first. Once our baby is born, I don't plan on going out much for the first 2 months except exercising. I don't go out much now unless I'm traveling for work or going out for groceries. I'm real stubborn though, so this works for me.

I didn't, infact when Summer was born I only had 2 packages of Swaddlers Newborns and a pack of Huggies as I wasn't sure what I would like. I LOVED the swaddlers with Summer.
Summer is 17.5 months and is in size 3 I have a few size 4's I bought back in November (sale LOL) and they are way to big! I think she will be potty trained before we use them!
I plan to buy a box of newborn and a box of size 1 and then wait until Ashton arrives before getting anymore.

Haylea was tiny so she was even in NB until almost 3mo. She is 6mo now and we are just finishing our last case of size 1s and going to 2s. Some babies skip the NB altogether and aren't in 1s very long so it really depends on how big your baby is. I didn't buy many at the beginning...actually I didn't buy any I just had some from showers because even though you can exchange them I didn't want to hassle with it. The last thing you want to do when you have a newborn is go out lugging around extra stuff and taking longer than just running in and getting what you need and then getting back home! We just get them when we go to the grocery anyway. I am actually thinking about ordering from diapers.com...price seems to be the same as in the store but much more convenient.

We are doing cloth diapers and we purchased them early on. I have been stocking up on wipes too. I put a few disposible Swaddlers on my registry because I don't want the meconium to stain my cloth diapers and for when we are out and about.

I didn't buy any disposible diapers ahead of time. I did buy a stach of cloth diapers but I'm not using them yet.
Connor had problems with leaking in the pampers at the beginning so I'm glad I hadn't bought a whole bunch of them. Now that he's a little bigger they fit him just fine. So I think it probably depends on the build of your baby.
I love the idea of a diaper account of giftcard you just put money on. That way you can buy them when you need them.

I didn't read all the responses, but I started early. I am big on coupons and sales and I never wanted to be stuck paying full price. I did see how Sam suggested the savings account and while I considered that, with interest rates so low, I saved much more money buy buying smart early rather than saving the money and collecting pennies worth of interest. But that's me, and I'm big on saving as much money as possible! We CD a lot, but I knew she'd be in sposies at first.
A couple things, make sure your store will let you exchange/return in case you don't like a brand or don't need a size anymore. Many people like Pampers. I loved them for other babies. Cherie leaks through them, so I had to exchange them all for Huggies (she's sensitive to Luvs.) I wouldn't stock up over size 3. Make sure you have newborn size. You can exchange if you don't use them, but more babies need them than don't, but everyone will tell you not to buy them! And never ever ever buy full price, it's a ripoff and most stores rotate what brand is on sale! Oh, and go to the websites for each brand now to sign up for coupons. Sometimes it takes a while for them to get them out.
