Did you guys wash ALL the bedding including the crib skirt and quilts before putting them in the bed? Obviously i'll wash the sheet and bumper as he would be touching those.

And the bumper leads me to my next question, did you guys use bumpers? I've read many many mixed reviews... some people link them with SIDS while others say it has nothing to do with it so its hard to know whats "right". Is it one of those things where its all a matter of opinion like tummy sleeping? As far as SIDS goes its possible Michael will be coming home on monitors anyway and if he doesnt we're thinking of getting one of those AngelCare monitors for his bed anyway...

Oh and how many extra crib sheets do you have?

I will wash everything on mine....only cause I'm a clean freak like that. Here is the bumper type I registered for, it's a breathable one:

BreathableBaby Breathable Safer Bumper - Sage : Target

There was a thread in our DDC about bumpers last month and many of the BTDT momma's used bumpers because they found their babies arms and legs would get stuck between the rails.

Also, this is just me.....I have 4 sheets so far and I may get a couple more. But I'm a clean obsessy person and I want my child to have clean sheets and also to have extra so I don't have to constantly worry about laundry.

I washed everything also. It pretty much went into one load so it wasn't any extra work to do. I did wash the bumper separate though because it is kind of bulky.

I have 3 crib sheets. I found that the first time I put Connor in the crib he spit up and I had to wash the sheets. So, a few extra sheets won't hurt. My friend gave me the trick of having two mattress covers and making up the bed twice (one on top of the other) that way when one gets dirty you just pull everything off and already have the bed made underneath. She said it really helped on busy days (which is always the day the bed needs washing LOL)

I also bought something called a "sheet saver". It goes under there head to catch drool, spit up, etc. Saves you from having to wash the entire sheet.

I washed the entire bedding set before putting it on her crib.

We did use a bumper but she was also sleeping in her crib at 5 months. We never had a problem with it and I actually kind of preferred her bumper because Siera likes to creep up into the corner and smush her head into it. I'd rather her bang her head against a cushion rather than have her slam it against the wood.

I'd recommend getting at least 3 crib sheets. This way you can guarantee a clean one if one is in the machine and one is on the bed.

Yes I washed it all and put the bumper in but once he started actually using his crib I took the bumper out. I just feel better with it out and I can see him by poking my head in the door and couldn't with the bumper in.

I will be washing all the bedding once I get it...(I feel so far behind already) and unless I can find the breathable ones like Lee Ann did, I won't be using bumpers. I do plan on buying an angel heart from a friend of mine to use so I will have that as well...bumpers just make me nervous, unless they are the breathable. I may change my mind once they are in though, because like Erin said, it would be nice to just be able to peek in and see her, and not have to walk over to the crib and risk disturbing her while she is sleeping.

So far i've only washed the sheet and skirt.. i wasn't really sure if it was okay to wash all of it, but after reading the comments i'll probably wash the rest of it.

I won't be keeping the bumper in the crib. I might for just a little while when he's still really small but then i plan to get a breathable one. It'll make me feel more comfortable.

I plan to get about 3 extra sheets for the crib.
