Reese is just a hair over 6 weeks now, and she is JUST beginning to start looking at toys. I cannot tell you how exciting and freeing this is to me!!! Up to this point the only way to keep my little girl from being fussy/bored was to hold her and sing or talk to her. She started looking at faces around 1 month old but still ignored everything else in her environment, which meant that my whole day was centered around her. Just in the last few days, I've noticed that if I hold toys over her, especially ones that make rattle noises, she'll look at them and stay focused, which she NEVER used to do. I'm so excited that she's starting to interact more with the world beyond mommy and daddy!!!!! For the other BTDT moms out there, how long did it take for your LO to really get into independent play time?

Oh yes, I totally remember that feeling! Do you have an exersaucer? When Paige was old enough to hold her head up (I can't remember when that was) I would put her in that (sometimes I still had to use a towel in the back because she was too small) but that exersaucer was a true blessing!!! But true independence was when she could sit on her own! O...M...G that was awesome! You could just sit her up with some toys around her and she was good to go!!!

I'll have to look at Amelia's baby book, but it wasn't too long after where you are now if I am remembering correctly. She really liked lying on her back and playing on her play mat as well since that has fun toys that hang down that she could reach.

Yay Rachel!! I think he really started to notice things around 2 months and every day he would get a little more into different things. He's 4 months now and will sit and play in his jumperoo on his own. I think every day gets better and it really does get easier!

Ana hated tummy time, and only started to like her baby gym when she could roll over back to front at about 4 months. She could crawl before she could sit, so she just followed me round all day, now at 11 months she walks around behind me, I dont think she understands "independent" play!!
