Well we survived our first family vacation to Florida. We went to my Mom's in Fort Lauderdale for almost a week. I was a nervous wreck about flying with Billy since he isn't the easiest baby. He actually surprised us and did good!!! He slept through 1 takeoff and 2 landings; people even commented on how they didnt know a baby was on the plane, I was blown away.

It was so nice to get out of the house and cold/snow weather. We went for walks everyday, the beach, out to eat, etc. My mom even watched him for an hour and DH and I went out to lunch, our first time away from baby.

Billy is still fussy with his colic, but he is almost 3 months old and I'm seeing it get a little bit better. Plus when we were on the beach the crying/screaming didnt seem as bad since we were outside He still isnt taking a bottle but I'm trying not to stress about it, I have a month and a half before I go to work and stressing about it isnt going to help. Hopefully by then he'll just take a sippy cup with bm. Anyways, here are a few pics from the trip:
1st look at the beach (he slept)

On the beach with my mom and DH:

Before going out to dinner (he is not used to seeing sun):

Screamfest on the beach with my mom:

And one of him at the airport, I love this pic!

I'm so glad you had a good vacation. And that he was a good boy on the plane!! That must have been such a relief.

I am so happy that his colic is starting to get a little better and that you got some time to yourselves. Thanks for the update.

I'm so glad your first family vacation was a success...you are definitely brave taking a 3 month old...I'm still wondering if an 8 month old is too young to take a family vacation (we are going to Florida as well) I guess only time will tell. Looks like you guys had a good time and enjoyed the sun.

Jodi, you are one brave woman!!! I would have never had the courage to take paige somewhere when she was soooo colicky!!! I'm so glad it went well and you definitely deserved to get away!!! I can't see the pics darn it, but I bet he's adorable as ever!!! Glad to hear things are getting a little easier. i think by the 4 month mark I really noticed a difference. Things will only get better from here, promise!!!

Gwen - Yeah I really was apprehensive to do it, but I knew I needed to get out and figured I'll never know how it will be if I don't try! I was almost in tears at take off the first time worrying about it, and my heart was racing. Even the night before we left DH looked at me and said, "Are you nervous about the plane again tomorrow?" I told him yup but we can only hope for the best!

I think since the airport was so busy he kept him looking around and on the plane he slept a lot (and made up for the screaming later, ha) He loved looking at everyone, and they would wave and talk to him so that helped too.

Marci - I say take it as it comes, he really surprised us w/ the plane ride

Yay for a great vacation! I'm nervous about flying as well - I'm dreading it actually. We're going to NH next month (maybe), I'm not worried about her crying but I'm worried about breastfeeding away from home for so long (I'm still getting used to nursing in public) and I'm worried about all the baby stuff we'll have to take with us. Ugh!

Diane - I was also nervous about NIP, I never had before. At the airport after we went through security he wanted to nurse so we went to a gate that didnt have a lot of people and I put the travel system on the side of my, had dh sit on the other side of me, and then used my nursing cover. As far as the airplane I always took the window seat and if there was a side that only had 2 seats, we booked those. Also, if you take an evening flight, its real dark and no one can see you anyways!!

As far as once we were there, the only place I ended up having to nurse was on the beach and we had that little tent so I just layed facing the tent and put a blanket over my back. I say go for it, it was such a nice getaway. Also get what you can when you get there like diapers. My mom just bought a pnp and tub to keep there. Sorry it got so long just thought I'd let you know how it went

So glad you were able to get away and so glad to hear that he did so well on the plane!!

I'm taking Mari to visit my folks in WA state next month and sooooo nervous about it since we have three total legs to our journey. I hope that I'm as pleasantly surprised as you guys were with Billy!
