I already did it. I hadn't washed it in a while and forgot to rinse it last time I had used it. I found black mold in one part, so I wiped it out and soaked them for a bit in bleach water. Then I thought maybe I am not supposed to do that, so I soaked them in regular water. So is it ok to bleach them?

which parts did you bleach??

I got mould in my tubing and I spoke to medela and they told me to use a syringe and put diluted bleach through the tubing.

the pump parts are I think non porus so I wouldn't think it would be a problem provided you rinsed them well before you use them again...

off to check!

it was everything but the tubing, and the pump itself of course. So the horns and one of the collection bottles.

I don't know if it okay to bleach them or not, but I know you can boil them. Boiling is supposed to sterilize it and I would imagine boiling would kill mold too.

I couldn't find anything online BUT have you seen the clorox ad? they show (and say) you can use it to steralize baby's bottles.

If it was just the horns and bottles then I'd say its fine, but can you email the manufacturer? what sort of pump do you have?

If it was the membranes I'd recommend getting new ones but for horns/bottles I think you are OK

oh yeah and the membranes, doh! I am thinking that part might not be ok to bleach too. I have a medela (sp?) pump n style.

oh well in that case the yellow part would be ok! I'd go and buy replacement white bits! I replaced mine every month (but I was EPing) they sell them at BRU!

Medela Spare Membranes - Medela - Babies "R" Us

Medela have GREAT customer service and I am still confident that everything is ok! but I would replace the white part of the membranes, just because they are more delicate and will effect your pumping abilities (they wear with time)

Yeah I agree with Tam...I wouldn't use the membranes but everything else is ok. While your out get some steam bags...Medela makes them and you can sterilize in them in the microwave (membranes and all).
