Just got this in my inbox : Safety Alert: CPSC warns against potential dangers of baby slings - Baby Gear - Safety Alerts

I'm assuming that most of these are the padded type slings, which have always just looked hot and unsafe to me anyway - BUT something to consider.

I had really wanted to use a sling, and still do, but I'll be more careful when shopping for one knowing that info...

yeah its the bag type sling - most def the Infantino Sling Rider - babies have died in it.

Most carriers are VERY safe - just know how to wear it and pay attention to your baby

I am an avid baby wearer. That sling has never looked right to me. There are (just like everything else) safe and unsafe ways to wear your baby. Parents need to educate themselves on baby wearing before choosing a carrier. I hope this doesnt scare people off from baby wearing. Funny how you dont see that many articles on how horrible the Baby bijorn is on babies hips. I cringe when i see those carriers all over the place. If parents only new of alll of the other carriers that are so much better for the baby, but the bijorn has gotten so trendy. ok..my 2 cents.

Oh I completely agree, its like anything else you just have to be attentive - hopefully this will get the girls being a little more careful when they shop!

I hate those baby bjorn things, too - they look like freaking metal frame camping backpacks, and those are uncomfortable enough to wear let alone with a baby in it!

The are ergonomically incorrect for the baby. Newborns legs are naturally in a "froggy" position, and thats the way they should be worn. also, the fabric between the legs is so thin, that it doesnt offer the hips and pelvis enough support. Where as a wrap, the pannels are nice and wide, baby is cuddled against mamas chest in a very natural position....i could go on and on..stop me!

Like the other girls were saying though, keep in mind that most are safe - its like anything. Kids die in playpens when parent's don't keep them maintained and don't watch the child. The number one warning on everything - never leave children unattended. Do that (which is pretty easy when the kid is like attached to you LOL) then you should be fine.

Personally, I think that warning should come as a birth mark on kids that they grow out of at 18 - but that's just me
