Hi Ladies!
Just wanted to let you know I'm back and all is great! Will post my birth story and pictures tomorrow!
----------
So I'm a few days late with my update - things have been busy with all of our company!
Here's Jack's Birth Story:
I was induced at 41weeks 3days on Monday March 22nd. I had a great sleep the night before (with no signs of impending labor in sight!) and we arrived at the hospital that morning at 7:45am. I got changed and was hooked up for a non-stress test. Baby was doing excellent and somehow I just realized "I'm actually going to go through labor today, what if I can't do this!" and got a little misty eyed and sent my heartrate to 111bpm, but my hubby was great (as he proved to be throughout the whole labor process). An I.V line was started and my doctor came in and broke my water, turned out I was 3 cm's dilated. A half hour later, oxytocin was started. I had mild cramping for the next two hours, and then bam - my contractions were intense and 2 minutes apart...it was insane, and I kept asking my husband why no one would help me and was utterly annoyed with my nurse who would calmly repeat "just breathe" - SHOVE IT LADY! haha
At 1:15, I finally got a tiny bag hooked up to my I.V line of fentanyl...which lasted for about 15 minutes of giving me some relief of dozing off between the 2 minutes that my contractions were apart. I vaguely remember in my drugged state telling my husband not to look at me
Once the fentanyl wore off, my contractions were one on top of the other, the nurse didn't really believe me, because I had just been checked not too long before and was still at 3cm's. So I requested an epidural thinking I had a long ways to go and couldn't manage the piling up of the contractions. The anesthesiologist was in the O.R. so it took him about an hour before he could come up. When he finally did come, he immediately had to go back to the O.R., so he only put the line in my back, but didn't hook it up. In the meantime, the nurse decided to check me and I was surprisingly 9 1/2 cm's - which would explain the INSANE contractions! 20 minutes later we went down to the delivery room, where I was joined by my mom to witness the birth. When I got the urge to bear down, I was saying "I have to poop!" and the nurse was saying "then poop!", not sure if I actually did or not (that's up for debate with my mom, husband and me lol)...sitting there legs spread I thought there is no way this baby can come out of me, but that urge to bear down is incredible, that your body pretty much does it on it's own. I pushed through 4 - 5 contractions, and at 5pm on the nose, my little Jack was born. The cord was wrapped twice around his neck, but he still had great apgars of 9 and 10. Weighing in at 8lbs 10 oz and was 23 inches long - big boy!! As a result, I have a 3rd degree tear that's super sore. But, I've never felt so in love with my husband then the moment I looked over at him when they first put Jack on my chest and my hubby had tears rolling down his cheeks.
Today is he 4 days old and is such a joy. I stare at him in awe and feel so fortunate that he is ours!
I attached some pictures for your viewing pleasure - sorry for such a long birth story. It was incredibly intense as I said, but also very liberating now looking back that I did that by myself (minus the 15 minutes of pain relief I got from the fentanyl!)
