Hi Ladies!
Things are going well and I can't believe Jack is already almost 3 weeks old..time is flying, and days just run together. I've had a few struggles with breastfeeding since Jack has a horrible latch which caused my nipples to look like a war zone for 2 weeks and I cried every time I fed him because the pain was unbearable. This past week I bought a pump and I've been pumping so they've healed, and I alternate between pumping and BF'ing.
We had a major scare last Saturday, the thing I've most feared came true. We were told by all of the doctor's and nurses to keep Jack on his back as that's the new recommendation, and as apprehensive as I was about it, I did it. Then last Saturday after about 30 mins after his feeding I put him beside us in his bassinette to go to bed and I was laying there watching him, when out of nowhere he projectile vomited and I saw it come back into his mouth and I shot up out of bed and grabbed him, but it was too late, and he was choking...and I mean choking, couldn't breathe. It was terrifying. My husband grabbed him and started performing the baby heimlich maneuver, but Jack was turning purple and vomit was coming out of his nose and bubbles out of his nose, so we ran out of the house and headed for the hospital which was right nearby thankfully. As soon as we got there the nurses grabbed him and started suctioning...I'm so glad it turned out okay, it makes me cry still to think about how the outcome could have been very different and also the look of desperation on his face was horrifying. So he now sleeps on his side in a wedge regardless of what the doctor's recommendations are now to prevent SIDS.
In other news, we finally caught a smile on camera yesterday, so I thought I'd share:
This morning, he was in a smiley mood, so out the camera came!
And a few others:
I'm looking forward to the next flood of babies being born!
