At about 4pm yesterday Marina started screaming her head off. Nothing would soothe her. I tried carrying her in my wrap (which has always worked in the past), walking with her, swaddling her, walking outside with her, swing, bouncer, warm bath, etc. Occassionally her breathing had a weird hiccupy shriek to it. She did this until 7:30pm when I called the doctor. They said because of her age to take her to the ER. She calmed down a little on the way over, but started screaming again once we were triaged. The doctors did their exam and they determined she has colic. I really felt like she was okay but of course we couldn't take any chances. She has NEVER screamed like this for so long before. It was so frustrating and heartbreaking. I personally feel like she was just having a bad day, but if she does this again tonight I guess we'll know for sure. Anyway I really wanted to share this weird tidbit from the doc. He said since my hair is probably falling out to pay close attention to her toes because he has seen the hair not up and turn into a tourniquette (spelling?) and has had to amputate several kids' toes because of it. Crazy!! Marina is doing great today so far. I'm so relieved there wasn't anything seriously wrong with her.

Watch for the hair every where! It's amazing how it can wrap around. If you have a little boy you also need to check his penis if he's screaming like that.
i'm glad she is okay and it's only colic. Not that colic is fun, but it's better than a worse alternative.

has she done htat before? strange that they diagnose her with colic at 2.5 months....colic usually resolves it's self by month 3-4. Sorry that you had to take to the ER last night. That must have been scary and heartbreaking all in one.
Wow, what a way to freak a new mom out by telling her that her kids toes could be amputated (good info, just wow....)
Hope Marina has a better day for you today!! Do you use Gripe Water? My niece is colic and that really works for her when she gets going. (she's the one born hours after Marina).

I'm so glad that she's doing okay now and nothing was seriously wrong! That is crazy about the hair! My hair has been falling out really badly lately so i guess i should be paying closer attention to it.

You just freaked me out about the hair thing - AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
But so glad she is ok, I agree that this is a weird time to be diagnosed with colic...almost seems like they didnt see anything wrong, so its the easiest answer...KWIM?
Hope she feels better today

How scary! Hope she is feeling better! I read about the hair wrapping around body parts on a website so I've been checking Lexi closely. Of course the website didn't say anything about amputations, just that it could make a baby uncomfortable. I've been wearing my hair back around her lately because she pulls it and gets it wrapped around her fingers. Colic is a strange diagnosis this late. But I agree on the gripe water. If Lexi gets fussy and I can't seem to calm her down I give her the gripe water and she seems to get to feeling better.

Thanks ladies. It looks like she really does have colic! I can't believe she is getting colic when she's almost 3 months old!!

Poor little girl I'm sorry you had to go through that...SO glad it wasn't something serious. (I totally know how difficult colic is don't get me wrong) You will get through it, and just remember that you're a great mommy!

She's been doing really good lately. As long as we swaddle her in the evenings she's been fine. Hope I didn't just jinx myself though, lol!
